Default Can I lose the chrome? : M414 18" TURBO-LOOK-WHEEL HIGH GLOSS FINISH

As recently posted, got me a new ride: 2002 Carrera Coupe, with the above M414 18" TURBO-LOOK-WHEEL HIGH GLOSS FINISH rims, which I don't like, because I hate chrome. Short of replacement rims, do I have any cost effective alternatives with these rims? Strip and paint, strip and anodize, strip and something else? Or, do I just buy what I want, and sell these at a loss to a track junky?

I think you could get them sand blasted and painted or powder coated. I would find a local powder coater and give them a call or just stop in.

I don’t like these style wheels, chrome or not. I have a 2001 with the same style wheels (not chrome). I’ve been looking to replace my wheels. I’m interested in what you replace yours with. You have a beautiful car and wheels can really make the car.

I would sell these and buy new. That’s what I’m going to do, just can’t decide on what I want.

I like these 2005 OEMs on my 2001 996. YMMV.

Tarek, your wheels are the 997 Turbo wheels, corect? If so, they had a polished lip, not a chrome lip.

IMO if they are in good shape dont mess with them, sell them off and replace with something you like - or keep them for winter and put some snow tires on them if you have the space....

I have a 2000 Millennium Edition 996 that came factory with the chrome look wheels.. 3 out of the 4 have started to delaminate.. I am trying to keep the car OE even though I don't care for the chrome wheels either. I'd be interested in purchasing yours, at the right price.. Might help offset the cost of replacements for you.

WOW, the same guy must have owned both our cars! What's with the chrome?

I called around to a few places - takes a few days but the rates were reasonable. I like the wheels...just not the chrome. I am going to get something like redridge's. Gloss Black or something similar.

You have the later TT wheels, not the same as posted above. These are a completely different animal...

They look similar is all I was saying (best I can tell from the pic's). My TT Prod. date is 06/2001. Don't personally care for the twist style and don't know what to replace mine with. Keeping them as a back up is a good idea. I want to see what others have done. Aftermarket and later model wheels etc...

Sport Technos look awesome on the 996. I think LVDell is selling a set from his turbo right now.
