That's not bad of a price. What's a three step detail? My car is in dire need of a detail... exterior and interior actually. I will definitely consider them after I finish getting body parts painted and installed.
1. Clay bar over entire surface to remove surface impurities
2. Polish
3. Wax

Oh, and they tape off all trim so they don't mar it during the polishing. This is a good thing, as less detailed detailers will either scuff / burn the rubber trim or push the rubbing compound into the crevices.

I'll probably do the clear side markers and possibly a silver Porsche crest on the hood at some point, but for now I want to get the interior chip-free and squeak / rattle free.

Speaking of rattles, apparently there are a ton of potential sources for me to tinker with. I just went to Renntech and downloaded 14! tech service bulletins issued by Porsche for addressing various "noise" sources. Seems the common fix is adhesive felt or foam tape. Should be interesting to see if I can get my cabin completely quiet.

For anyone else reading this in the Seattle area looking for a rattle expert, apparently these guys can help:

www.eurotechbodywerkes.com

I can't vouch for them, but it is a lead anyway.

Personally, I like to fix stuff, so I think I'll use the TSB docs I've downloaded from RennTech.org to try to tackle as many as I can first. Wish me luck.

Default 13.9 MPG

I know that a sports car is not a Honda when it comes to fuel efficiency, but I'm surprised how quickly the needle drops on the gas gauge in my "new to me" P-car.

Since my last fill-up, my trip odometer reads 92 miles, and the gas level is right at the 1/2 way mark. The gas tank holds 16.9 gallons. If the gauge were accurate, I would have gone through roughly 8.5 gallons and my actual gas milage would be just about 11 MPG!

However, my gas gauge does not appear to be correct. I just topped off again this morning for a total of 6.6 gallons. 92 miles / 6.6 gallons = 13.9 MPG (even though the OBC says 15.1 MPG). 13.9 MPG seems pretty crappy considering this is the efficiency I get with me just throwing the car into drive and letting the tip tranny do all the shifting, with very little hard acceleration. If I were hammering the throttle all the time, I could understand getting 14 MPG.

I casually mentioned my concern to my mechanic and he felt that the OBC would catch any problems with the fuel delivery to the motor and throw up a CEL if the air / fuel mixture were off. That makes sense, but it seems that most people here are reporting 16-18 MPG in town, and 25-27 MPG highway. I'm getting between 12-14 town and 17-18 highway.

Any thoughts on the cause? Anything I can ask my mechanic to look for?

Unless you are tracking(and you aren't) those mpg figures are pretty low. My car seems to average 21 mpg for highway or around town. Not sure I can give you any ideas, but hopefully someone can help you with an explanation.

Thanks!

I've been out of the loop on Porsche accessories, so the first time I saw these wheels was on this car, but I think they do make it look like a more current model. I've got no complaints.

Ed,

Is there anywhere local to purchase the needed bulbs for the Amberectomy?

How tough are the front light assemblies to remove to change the bulbs? Did you change the rear lights as well?

Thank you,

John

Hmmm .....

According to www.fueleconomy.gov apparently I'm not too far off from the expected MPG, and I'm right on target with the "user reported MPG", but I don't get how you any many others are getting 18+.

I haven't calculated my MPG, but another thing I noticed is that everytime I fill up, the gas gauge never seems to hit full. I don't drive my car much in the winter but I will pay closer attention next time I fill up.

Thank you,

I bought mine at xenonmods
http://www.xenonmods.com/silverbulbs1157info.htm
email and ask him which ones you need, he was easy to work with though some people have said they had problems. These are becoming more available and places like Amazon have them. Not sure where to get them locally.

pulling the headlights takes 30 seconds and removing the bulb is about the same amount of time. BUT if you want the inner lens removed that takes about 1/2 hour and some tinkering around with a hot soldering iron and a pair of needle nosed pliers

post #29 and 32 show how to remove the inner lens of the headlights.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...berectomy.html

I have done 8 of these operations, its not hard, but you have to be careful not to melt the parts you want to keep (like the bulb mounting surface)

hope this helps - the results are awesome!

When I first bought my car I had a really annoying squeak coming from the passenger side. When I lowered it the noise only got worse. I fixed it by not letting my wife ride in the car any more.
