Ed,

I plan on attending the "skills day" and give my new toy a workout. The 996 will have different handling characteristics than the Subie STI I last drove at Bremerton.
I would like to talk to you about supervising an amberectomy on my Targa...

cool, anytime...

might be a cold one out there but there is a nice long lunch break and always time late in the day. I would be more than happy to offer a hand on the headlights. When you get time order the bulbs so you only have to pull everything once. (I took a couple months to get it all together)

Since it's a Tiptronic I'm going to assume that you're a pretty easy going driver. If you're not, make sure you add regular checks of your suspension fasteners. The 996 was never made to handle the added stress of the 19 inch wheel. (Porsche attempted to save money on the 997 by reusing and not redesigning the 996 suspension but found out that they were tearing them up from the added stress--they had to be reengineered).

Thanks, I plan to have the suspension checked periodically based on a comment you made in the thread on RUF 19" rims. Why are larger rims harder on the suspension?

I'm not a super agressive driver, but I wouldn't say I'm easy going either. I chose the tip because I plan to use this as a daily driver, a good deal of which can be spent in traffic. This is my first automatic transmission, but the manual mode seems like a good compromise between convenience and performance.

OH and sorry Tim to go OT on your thread but

if any of you hitting the track on the 8th need a helmet I have 2 size mediums available, they are holding over the Snell 2000 rating till spring because the club "rentals" are all 2000 and have not been replaced yet...after that it will be 2005/2010 only - I have my new one already

Having pulled a real noob move, I picked a user name (Basalt 911) to reflect what I *thought* was the color of my recently acquired 996, only to find out that "Basalt" black was not available in 2001, only the less colorfully named "Metallic Black".

So ..... if you are wondering why user "MetBlk 911" has the same avatar as "Basalt 911", we are one-and-the-same.

User "Basalt 911" is no longer.

May he rest in peace.
