C4 Cab in snow- impressive!
We received a couple of inches of snow this morning and I took my newly-acquired 2000 C4 Cab out to see how it faired. I was very impressed with it's handling and predictability on light snow and ice as well as slush. Keep in mind that this is on performance tires and not on traction tires. If it gets much colder, the performance tires will be downright dangerous, however...
A couple of observations- It was very predictable nearly all of the time in all the conditions I subjected it to. When I first headed out, I deliberately avoided most of the hills in my area. (We actually have the highest hill in Seattle right behind my house at 535.5 feet...) Braking was controlled and measured, subject to the limits of physics of course, as they remind you in the C4 owner's manual... and the C4 stayed on an even course, despite deliberately engaging the ABS.
After about an hour behind the wheel, I attempted some modest hills, with very little problem. The PSM engaged several times, but it was fairly transparent.
I finally attempted a steeper hill with a 120-degree turn at a safe speed. The C4 ate it up- it really was very unfazed by the conditions.
All in all, a very impressive piece of engineering. I can't wait to get some traction tires and head up to on of the passes for some real snow time.
I just looked outside and it is snowing again- time to take the C4 out for another run!

Plan your fun accordingly. Watch out for ending up being in one of those videos taken from an apartment balcony of cars sliding down iced up streets into numerous parked cars while sliding down the slope.

yea, this iced up pretty good, I spent about 3 hours getting cars unstuck off our hill, must have helped 60 or more people, drove a dozen cars who's drivers just said "you do it" and saw 5 fenderbenders from people not willing to listen to us.... its a small hill but causes big headaches...
now that its quiet out we too the suburban out with a load of people and the dogs to survey the abandond cars... fun for us, kids will sleep well tonight, looks like at least a late start or no school tomorrow - I have to work, but will drive the burb as they have sanded and I no likey rock chips
cheers guys!!

Yes that C4 is amazing. After reading Tom's post I just had to take the C4 out and try "the Hill" in our neighborhood. I think it is about a 12% grade ( Neighbors are parking at the bottom & walking home )and with packed snow and ice the Carrera just rolled on up. I stopped of the steepest part of the hill and started back up with no wheel spin. I though for sure there would be some as the tires are Summer - the Conti DW - but they do have new tread and that helps. Cold day about 26 degrees so it was still slippery and stopping did invoke the ABS... nice to know that works too!
