Default Pleasant Surprise

Put the hardtop on today. I moved the passenger seat all the way forward so I could get in the back to lock down the roof. Sticking out halfway is some black leather-looking thing. I wrestle it out and find that it's a leather folder with all of the car's original documents.

I received no documents when I bought the car four months ago, but the previous owner was nice enough to order a manual for me from the dealer ($250). This stuff would've been really helpful a few months back. For example, the folder contains a set of assembly instructions for the hardtop wall mount. This was like a Chinese puzzle to me. I was eventually lucky enough to find someone on the Internet who was able to help me. It took me almost a week to figure out how to use the radio. That was before I discovered Rennlist.

It's interesting to see that the Tiptronic-S was free, but the wood and aluminum trim cost over $4k.

Total cost $109,840 (including sales tax and custom V1 installation) This is more than I paid for my last 5 new cars. I probably should have called this thread "Peasant Surprise".

Now I don't feel so bad about doing $3k worth of preventative maintenance (IMS/RMS etc....)

Oooh, I'd like to see the original bill of sale for my car. I did get the manual and all that junk, but seeing how much all the options etc cost would be neat.

That's a very nice find! Not only does it secure the pedigree of the car, it makes your ongoing maintenance journey a bit less of a shot in the dark.

You can do the next best thing by opdering the Certificate of Authenticity for your car. You can do a search on this forum for the details of how to order it. I have mine and it is better than the Bill of Sale because it is an official Porsche document (BoS is a dealer document and has other peoples names on it). It has the serial numbers, options, and all the prices.

Or you can search this forum for the option codes list and compare that with the white sticker on the underside of your front trunk lid. Hopefully yours is still there.

Nothing reliable that I know of. With a lot of cars, you can get there just by Googling around. Eventually you'll find a road test from a magazine of the period that gives you pricing. But with Porsches, there are so many options that it's highly doubtful you'd find a car exactly like yours.

I think mine was about $90k sticker. It's unbelievable what a deal we get when comparing it to the original price. And luckily I had a huge 3" binder with what seems like every receipt from the beginning of the car's life. Even the financing paperwork!

Amazing considering I got it at a dealer.

I phoned 1800PORSCHE, gave them the VIN and they gave me MSRP and told me I could order the COA.

this was about 5-6 years ago

Hmmm... maybe I should check under my seats too... hopefully I'll find an envelope with alot of Benjamins inside...

All I had was a Discount Tire Co receipt that the previous owner left in his glove compartment, but it was good enough to get the records from him!

You can also do the VIN search with Suncoast. I did, and although I didn't get the original sticker price, I did get a list of all the options added, build date, etc. Just something else for the folder.
