Question on Side Skirts
Hi,
I've been looking for a '996 for about 4 months and I'm now interested in one. The car is a '01 C4 Cabrio. The question I have is about the side skirts on this car. The car doesn't have the Aero package, but the skirts look like they are Aero style.
What I would like to know is, could these skirts be OE on this car or are they add on? And, would anyone know if they are on top of the original side skirts and could be removed without damaging the car? I don't think I like the way they look without the complete Aero package.
Any help would be appreciated. I will own a 996 soon. Can't wait to post a picture of one I own, but until then, here is a picture of the side skirts I'm asking the questions about.

look for screw attachements underneath.... if it has it its oem.... it will be easy to remove, but would have to get the sticky off on top.... I would leave it alone though, just put on a gt3 lip on the front to balance the look a little.

Need a better front pic but that doesn't look like a Mk1 aero front. Looks like the regular front. Could be the lighting that is giving the illusion of the "rounded" side extension present on the aero front.

I have an 01 C2 cab with factory side skirts and the rear bumper side flares as well. I factory ordered the car with the GT package that included skirts, flares and larger exhaust pipe extensions. I The 01 pictured appears to have the identical skirts to mine. The bumber is stock (non aero). As I recall, the 01 aero kit added aero front bumper plus rear fixed spoiler in addition to skirts and flares.
The side skirts have large screws that attach skirt to body.
Hope this helps.

some cars came with the side skirts alone, not the whole Aerokit. Having them doesn't mean it's not original they just look funny (to me) without the aero front bumper. Some aero cars have the rear side trims on them and some don't. There's also a dealer installed or techquipment aerokit that adds a piece onto the front rather than replacing the entire bumper cover, maybe you could find that.

The side skirts attach with screws and clips underneath along the edge and with a screw on each end inside the wheel well. The top edge mounts to the surface of the car with 3m tape or some shops use epoxy. Tape is an easy removal but epoxy could take a bit of time and require some heat. Nice looking car, congrats
