Nick, I'm not sure how many times we have to keep telling you that you are wrong on your perception of the Turbo market. I followed the market for months before my purchase and still do. There is NOT a glut of cars on the market that would fall into the well maintained category. YOu can't use eBay as a reference and you can't use the fact that you are buying to create the market.
The car that the OP is talking about is easily worth between high 40's to low 50s. The nice ones are NOT being sold at rock bottom prices as you would want us to believe.
If you want to steal one from somebody you better be very patient. If you are intent on spending in the 30's then be prepared to get and 01 that was beat to **** with high miles. Sure, there are a few "deals" out there but these are not selling at firesale prices nor are there a glut of them for sale.
And no, the market is not at the mercy of buyers and no, Porsche owners do not equate "years old" with how much the car is worth.
Geez, where do you come up with this crap.
....check out the PCNA website. There are only 24 coupes available nationwide (not all would be considered prime examples mind you) and the pricing for these 01-04's ranges from mid 40's (2001's) to mid 60's (2004's).

I have family that works at the Porsche/Audi dealer here and has for years. I have friends that work at the dealership as well that I am in contact with weekly. I have a friend/neighbor that is an Executive for the Garff Group that owns a Porsche dealership. I have recently discussed used Porsche sales with him. I have been a dealer, and work in the motor vehicle industry and have since the early '70s.
My brother is looking for a Porsche, his 3rd 996, and most likely a 6TT. He has been in the automobile business for years in sales and management, working for BMW, Porsche and Audi at different times. We discuss the Porsche used car market a few times a week. He is privy to some inside info that's not available to the general public, like Manheim and other dealer resources.
I have been looking for a Porsche for about 3 months now quite seriously. I have been looking at TTs specifically cabs, '04-'05. I watch Auto Trader, Cars.com, Ebay and some local and regional ad sites.
The above is where I come up with this "crap"
I still stand by my original post, possibly you should re-read it. You have followed it for months, I've followed it for years, and the Porsche market in general for over 3 decades and casually since the late '60s. In '98 I wanted to buy a new Porsche and there were no cars available. I was on lists at 2 dealerships, and had special ordered one from an out of state dealership that had a large allotment and could expect delivery in as little a 4 months. At this time there were virtually no used cars for sale and if one surfaced it was usually gone within a day or two. Dealerships had lists of people wanting used cars and most trades were sold with just a phone call and never advertised.
Anyway, just checked Auto Trader 6TTs 265 units listed for sale, Cars.com 208 units for sale, Ebay 59 units listed now. This does not include Porsche.com, local listings. I call this a glut, 532 996 TTs listed for sale tonight on these 3 websites. I realize many cars may be listed on all 3 sites. Not a glut? What would you call it?
And you mention "well maintained cars", you said this not I, you were trying to add words to my statement, then criticizing it as wrong.
I CAN and will use ebay, as I've spent over $100k purchasing two cars there that I've owned for several years. My brother has bought a 996 aero coupe and a C4S for personal use on ebay, spent over $120 for the both, took advantage of poor economic conditions geographically.
I'm not looking at dealer inventory. If I was, I'd be prepared to pay more than NADA retail and buy a CPOed car. These are the best of the best and they are selling quite well. A dealer has resources and clout not available to the private seller. Therefore a private party cannot expect to compete with the dealer as far as price and will generally will have to sell for a fair amount less.
I stand by the fact that asside from dealer inventory, the buyers will decide the market price for used TTs. Asking prices mean nothing, the market is determined by sales. If a car does not sell in a reasonable time frame, it's over priced.
Lastly, "Porsche owners do not equate "years old" with how much the car is worth." What the he** is this supposed to mean? You said it, not I. I didn't even reference anything of the sort. I did refer to the X50 package option not being worth a lot of extra money to most prospective buyers on an 8 yo car. I believe there was a poll on this on the TT forum a short while ago.
I must admit, I know nothing of the car in the original post other than color, year and mileage. You must be familiar with it and know it to assume it may be worth up to in the low $50s (remember this is selling price in a reasonable time from a private party)
Anyway, I'm tired and need beer. Have a great night...

I stopped reading after the first sentence of your novel trying to convince yourself you are right. Go back and read your post and all the ones you have posted in the last several months. Every single time you think you know what you are talking about everybody has to correct you.
Enjoy your search.

If you're selling it's worth more. If you're buying it's worth less. So what else is new?
When I buy and sell cars, I don't use this forum to ascertain value. I figure it out myself and I've been pretty good at it.
Give it a rest guys.
