Default Hidden Insurance Cost

I called my auto insurance company to get coverage on my 2004 996 Targa before I flew down to pick it up. Guess what?? Esurance doesn't insure all Porsches. They would provide me with a rate on a 2004 996 Coupe, but NOT ON THE TARGA!! They said that it was too expensive a car for them to insure.

That was interesting. They put me in touch with a broker that booked insurance for me with 21st Century Insurance. The policy was $650 for 6 months (I like to carry pretty high limits.) This was $150 more expensive for 6 months than I have been paying for my 2006 Lexus IS250. That's OK. The price of doing business.

I was just surprised to have an agent tell me, "Oh, I'm sorry, but we don't insure that car."

On an ancillary subject, does anyone know an insurance company that will allow me to buy an Add-On for Stated Value on the car? I know that Progressive will insure the car for stated value, but for a whopping $1065 for six months!!! That's $800 more per year for stated value. Ouch.

Yes, well, it kind of happened in reverse for us. We were insured by GEICO, and then wifey and I each had accidents within 2 months. I totaled my car. GEICO said GOOD-BYE.

Switched over to Esurance, saving $900 annually.

Farmer's Insurance, with a $2500 deductible, cost is about $800 a year. My thinking here is to cover a total loss or theft and pay for the time a board fell on the front lid myself. ($1000)

Tomorrow, my lovely young wife of 34 years and myself take off on the second 5K mile trip this year. The car is wonderful. (But secretly, in the dark recesses of my heart, I do lust after a new 911 turbo)

USAA 2002 C4S insured for 326.00 for 6 months. Full coverage and 500.00 deductible. Multiple car discount and homeowners with them as well. Best insurance company in the market but unfortunately only available to military.

USAA for 25+ years now. The best insurance company. Period. When I sold my 968 and bought the 911 my rate actually decreased!

They have opened membership to all prior-military and anyone whose parents were USAA members. My kids are all members now and it will pass on through the family.

I went from Erie Insurance last year to Allstate this year. I'm surprised how inexpensive it is for a name-brand policy.

Paid ~$60/month for full coverage on a 2001 996TT with MetLife - also have other cars, house, and umbrella with them. Never had any insurance company question my cars at all - and they shouldn't. Price it as you see fit and then I'll make my decision - I don't need any other commentary from some little-johnsoned actuary.

Really, I didn't know that. I thought it was only active duty and retired. I will have to check that out.
