Default AKFALAR's Crazy Roadtrip

So i'm picking up this car and driving 2,000 miles to Seattle.

Would anyone have any comments about spares i should bring with me? Hoses, belts, relays, duct tape...

When I picked up Kermit - my viper green 73 Targa, ready to start a 1300 mile trip, I packed up a whole bunch of stuff, including a voltage regulator, throttle cable, tools of all sorts, etc. Then just outside of Baltimore, I lost my alternator. Couldn't have anticipated that, nor would I have thought of bringing a spare alternator.

My best tool was the computer at the local hotel. We spent the night, and I had logged into the Pelican website (sorry guys, I wasn't into Rennlist at that point.) By morning, I had recommendations on two repair shops in close proximity, plus another guy who raced his Porsche with his dad. The guy had a spare alternator. He met me at the hotel, drove me to his house, picked up the alternator, came back to the hotel, changed out the alternator in the parking lot of the hotel, told me where to take mine to get it repaired, and gave me his address to send the replacement back to him when I was done with it.

What was the best tool I took with me?? Contact with the Porsche community. Whether Pelican or Rennlist, bring a laptop that you can use to get in touch with this website. The referrals you'll get and contacts you've made on this forum will be more valuable than any parts you could take with you in a duffle bag.

Good luck on your trip.

I'd rent a trailer hitch and tow a Toyata Yaris as a back-up.

If you have a small screen device like a Blackberry and prefer to use the stripped down version of Rennlist, do the following:

Access the site via https://rennlist.com/forums

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to where you see the style choices at the bottom left of the page. This is the quick style select box on the far left of the grey bar at the bottom of the page. The default setting is "Rennlist".

Click on the pull down menu and select "mobile".

You will see Rennlist with the streamlined mobile version.

If you decide to experiment and select the mobile version, and then decide you prefer the regular one you'll find that the mobile site does not offer the style choice. Don't panic.

Log out and clear your cookies. Then log back on and you'll see the default Rennlist site, non-mobile version.

nice input! I'll have my 7-year old as co pilot, and an Ipad 3G if he doesn't murder the batteries.

RUF is doing the IMS/RMS before i leave Dallas, coolant reservoir was done, and i think there is a new alternator/battery as well....

I think i should setup a facebook of blog, i'm sure we could upload pics as we go...

As for that beer, i'm gonna have to take a rain check! Were going to be in Seattle for no more thatn three hrs! Dropping the car at the port then - TO the airport

Will this be your longest trip in your Porsche?

Second trip to the West Coast this year. I use my Porsche for touring and sometimes for lunch on Friday, I do not race on the weekends. Just a fun car on the road, little road noise, with new tires, slight wind noise, engine noise low. You can pass anything on the road, mostly, 25MPG and it is fun to drive. The fastest I have had the car going was 143, my brother, more daring than I, had it up to 153 on the Astoria Bridge, (Oregon) at 2 in the morning.
