I'll have to say, it's a beautiful location to have a (huge) workshop. Not in the middle of a dodgy-looking industrial area. So jealous.

I can’t work in an area that’s congested. Here’s the training compound where we shot the videos, and where I hold my classes.

well despite all the "scary" posts you guys were not able to scare me off...looks like (after a good thorough PPI) I am about to become a happy 996 owner.

Bravo!! Was my scariest decision a year ago but after the first year, I cannot imagine not driving her as much as weather (snow) permits. Yup, I drive her in the rain. I’ve been assured that she won’t melt.

Mine has been great as well, I just figured doing the IMSB into the price when I bought it. Debatable that it was necessary since its a 99 double bearing but I feel better anyway..

Default "Front" Oil Seal Replacement?

So how detailed would the Porsche dealer have documented an IMS retrofit back in 2007 in a Carfax report while the 2004 996 was still under warranty?

The Carfax reports, "transmission removed and replaced" and then, "front crankshaft oil seal replaced."

If the transmission was removed, wouldn't that imply that the "rear" oil seal was replaced?

Any implication for the IMS in this reporting?

Well it is my 7th Porsche (including a 2004 GT3) and teh PPI showed great compression and leak down. Picked her up this am from teh shop and drives like a champ. Nice track/AX upgrades and hardtop (it is a C4 Cab).

This is great... The confusion comes from the fact that the seal on the "front" of the engine is called the "rear main seal" (the transmission is connected to the "front" of the engine i.e. the side of the engine closest to the front of the car). Semantics...the beauty of owning a rear engine car. I would refrain from "implying" anything regarding the IMSB - if it doesn't specifically say it was changed - it wasn't. You should also have the serial # sticker somewhere on the car if it was changed.

With direct oil feed from the oil filter, what pathway does the oil take after it feeds the bearing?
