Default Test drove 997.2 PDK today at the dealer

I wanted to send a little feedback from my test drive of the 997.2 PDK. I wanted to drive it for myself, after all the buzz around the PDK. The car had both button 'sport' and 'sport plus'.

without any button press the gas pedal is so sluggish it is annoying. With the sport button, I feels more like the 996. With the 'sport plus' then it get twitchy and would be great for the track.

About the famous gearbox, it is undeniably fast and on the track i think it would be hard to beat this setup with a manual. On the street, it is great to be able to push the car endlessly with such fast gear changes. But I realized that changing gear often remind me of how fast I am going and prevent me from going too fast almost. The PDK change gear so fast, you can't keep track.

The car was not equipped with the paddle but instead the button on the steering. Not a bad system, but not as cool as using paddles for sure. they feel good but nowhere near the feeling of a proper stick

Overall, I am sure it is faster but I bet I would not buy that option. Who cares how fast you go, what matters is how much fun you have. But for the sake 0-60 times, I bet they will keep on investing money in that kind of technology.

About the 997.2, the interior is much better with all black plastic finally free from that peeling mat stuff that was on the previous generation. I can't say much about the car as my test drive my quite short and I only wanted to have a feel of the PDK.

Last word, while walking away from the car and thinking about the 100k price tag, I see very little reason to spend three time more the money than a good used 996. It looks new, smell new and that's about it. so 60k for the new feeling, I don't think so...

Sorry but I did not snap any pics as there was really nothing special on that car.

Emgod, you are correct.

The 997.2 have all new engines. They are the 9A1 engine and have 40 % fewer moving parts, have DFI, and do NOT have an Intermediate Shaft. The base Carrera has 345 HP and the "S" models have 385 HP.

I did see a video of the PDK and sport package stuff for quick launches. You engage the mass of switch things on on for top performance then hold the brake down while pressing the accelerator and the car preps its self for max performance take off not allowing the brakes on revs to climb past a certain point. I guess thats great for the teenage son drag racing or easy of non do it yourselfers. Strange but it throws out the best performance. Even bikes are including 3 different fuel and ignition maps changeable on the fly for people less throttle management prone.

Yah I ramble too much as usual sitting here doing 3 things but eh. I still think that PDK gear change feature needs to be a nudge of sorts at the gearshift lever area. My primeevil days/hard rock/teens where I learned the ways of mountain and country racing from the virginia and NC boys just wont ever go away. I'm glad most everywhere else isn't like when NC got it to be a federal crime to race on the hwy. Yah its the truth bubbah. Federal believe it or not. Fits prime evil to the T. Anybody in NC know if it still is a federal crime there?

I have to say on this that the 'base' 997.2 - 345hp, feels like plenty enough power to have fun. The more the better, but I did not feel like it needed anymore power to me. Especially with the 'sport plus' button engaged, a slight throttle movement really send plenty of power. the additional 40hp of the 's' model will cost you $10k. not sure if it is even worth it.

talking about the throttle thingy, I am thinking about installing one of those 'boost button' -> http://www.sprintboosterusa.com/

anyone here tried those ? I've read couple good feedback on 6spdonline but I have not seen any DIY install yet.

I had one in my 2001 996 CAB, I liked it, better throttle response. I believe there is a DYI someplace, it was simple, just had to work on your back, took 30 minutes.
