Question V1 Hardwire Question...Best/Easiest Place To Hardwire?

Hi all,

I've spent the morning combing through all the v1 hardwire threads and I had a couplr of questions.

Can you hardwire to the dome light? If so, can you do it if you DO NOT have the self-dimming mirror?

If not, what's the best place?

Also, why do many mount their v1 on the passenger side? I've never seen this before and I was wondering if it was based off the hardwire location or if there was another reason.

Thanks in advance!

I used the phone power plug under the radio. I used a credit card to tuck the cable in along the windshield. Went under the dash. Then you pull off the sides by the radio. You should see a little 4 wire plug that is just hanging there. Brown wire is ground then the other two wire are power all the time and power when the ignition is on.
2nd pic shows the 4 wire plug you are after.

I put mine on the passenger side because I also use the same power source for my track data box (which I want to be out of the way). Others have the V1 concealed display unit, so where you put the V1 isn't as relevant.

Dome light is the easiest (the auto dimming doesn't matter). Just get yourself a wire tap from your local auto parts store and tap the 12v line going to your dome lights.

I mount mine in the middle of the windshield, just below the rearview mirror.

Great to hear. I have the V1 hardwire kit, that should have everything I need, correct?

Use the auto dimming light. The unit will power off after 10 minutes and will come back on with the unlock function of the keyfob. I used a blendmount to mount my beltronics to the mirror mount. This was a slick setup. Yeah I know, my mirror needs cleaning!

Just ordered that same Blendmount for my Valentine 1.
How hard was it splicing into that auto dimming light? Did you have to take apart the dome light cover?

Yep, you should be good to go. The cover pops right off and has plenty of room in it to stash the direct wiring

Use a thin item such as a credit card and pop off the smoke covers for the alarm and then remove a couple of torx screws and it is off. You can have it apart in less than a couple of minutes.

Thanks for the link. I did read that thread and I'm not sure why anyone would do this when you can wire it to the auto dim light in the dome?

I did mine that way and took 30 min tops. They only thing I had to remove was the side panels by the radio. When I take my V1 down I am able to tuck almost all of the cord in the head liner and you never even know there was a radar dectector installed.

Took under 25 minutes to install this way.
