With the 114k+ on mine I don't think I actually burn any. It's the valve cover leak that has one tick on the gauge disappearing per 5k. Same original engine from factory.

Kyle, Im at 62,000 and my car uses maybe a half a quart for every 3000 miles. Now, when I track the car Ill go through a quart per 1 tank of gas. I also think my AOS is going soon... When I leave a left handed hairpin i get smoke after a few laps. Then the smoke will disapear once I get out of the throttle. This happens each time I track the car at about the 3rd lap. Another 996 at the track driver told me that under hard left hand cornering AOS are know to do this? He recommended installing a motorsport AOS. That part is $700+... Hoping i can remedy with the standard part. Anyone else have this issue?

I have just over 55k miles on my '99 and I burn no oil between 5k mile oil changes, no leaks...all smiles.

I find it a bit disturbing that I have done several 5k changes now and never had to top up between changes even with autox and a track day.

~ 1/2-1 quart per track day...

To Hardback: I had the white puff in turns only when I had a bit too much oil (good tactic to confuse cars closing in...) Apparently the trick is to keep oil just at the low limit).

I am approaching another Oil Change. I have gone just about 5000 miles since its first change on my watch. Even with a few minor leaks (plug holes - now fixed) it has only gone down one notch on the digital oil level indicator. It is hardly noticeable on the dipstick. I am guessing that if I took it out for a good thrashing (in 2 weeks an Auto X day) the condensation accumulated over the winter months will burn off and the real consumption will be a bit more - but still quiet good compared to my earlier Air Cooled 911's. My Watercooler 968 never shows oil usage in the 5k change cycle I follow. Both cars have about the same 75,000 miles on the original engines.

I'm driving next weekend. I won't top off this event and see if that does the trick.
