Am about to disconnect the battery to make it safe to remove a door trim -- will wait the required minute so the side air bag doesn't 'blow'.
Car is a 2002 Targa with CDR 23 radio -- will I need a code when I reconnect the battery or is it "self testing"?
Thanks

RennTech.org will get your code for you. It cost to join but it is well worth. They have a lot of tech info including manuals for 996 & accessories, TSB etc.

RennTech can get the code for you most of the time, but it's not guaranteed. You can call Becker and get the code too - I think they charge about $35 for it.

I thought they had memory in later years?
BTW you can get a little unit that plugs into the cigarrette lighter that will keep the power for the memor "ON"

OK -- I'm a Renntech member so I will ask Loren for the code -- but -- after doing some more "threading" I am thinking all CDR23s are the "late type" and that the cdr22 is the one that needs to code -- mine has the amp box in the front trunk back a bit behind the top of the spare wheel.
Any clarification?

CDR-23 (or later):
These radios do not have a security code - that is, not that the user enters.
These radios are security tested on the MOST (fiber optic bus) system to see if they are the "programmed" radio. Only a dealer or shop with a PST2 or PIWIS tester can replace a MOST bus radio (i.e. CDR-23, CDR-24).

I'd like to install a used CDR23 in my '78SC. Is this going to be possible?
