FYI.....I think you did a great too! Looking forward to hearing of your next DE experience. The Blue Grass Region PCA has DE in Oct I think at Putnam. Maybe I will see you there. Might be able to help you out with a place to stay.

Phew! I'm glad someone is trying to counterbalance my transgressions!

I thought your driving was very nice - better than most first-timers. It looks smooth and you're driving a nice line. (Perhaps you had a good instructor! )

I think so. This was the 2nd to last run on Sunday.

At one point, the 'Vette dude with "Hey Judd" on his bumper roared past me on the straightaway. I might have video of that too for you.

I used the suction cup mount and attached it to driver's side windshield. I did this so I could start the video easily from driver's seat. I attached a photo to further illustrate the location

One note though: by placing it so high I caused the audio to be extra windy. That's why I put music over the video.

I contacted GoPro support and this is what they had to say:
Update for Case #54545 - "Audio Issues"
Hi Bobby,

If you find that you are picking up too much wind noise in your recording, there are several things you can do to minimize this.

1) When you don't need the camera to be waterproof and are traveling under 100MPH, you can use the open back housing door. This will allow for more of the engine or exhaust noise to be picked up by the microphone, and override the wind noise.
2) Mount the camera in a location that is exposed to the wind as little as possible. Placing the camera right in the line of the wind stream, such as at the top of the windshield, will cause the most wind noise.
3) Mount the camera closer to the surface of the car. If the camera is mounted using a fully extended extension arm in an area of high wind, the extension arm itself will generate a bit of wind noise that the camera's microphone will pick up.

Hopefully these tips get you some improved results. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Many Thanks,

GoPro Support

so suction cup mount is ok OUTSIDE the cabin but not inside.... good to know.

I have a panavise mount I wonder if I can trust it to hold my flip cam properly w.o it flying off mid DE

Anyone?

Yeah, that thing is really stuck on there. I hit 120 on the straight and it didn't go anywhere. I used a tether the first couple runs to be sure though.

I did have to wash some bugs off it though

same camera mount I have, I tried several times to get a good inside/outside vid but the lack of functions on the apature mean I wash out the outside with overexposure... also turn the MIC level to "low" and it will be much better.. my first couple vids are nothing more than clicks and pops

The GoPro has two modes for exposure, one is average of whole scene, other uses measurements from center so that when it's inside the car it gets the shot exposed for the scene outside the windshield. That part works pretty well actually.

Audio.. not so much so far.

Bobby, do you have the HD model? I'm told that does a much better job with exposure - especially simultaneous inside/outside.

I've had good luck mounting my camera on the roof, as opposed to the windshield... That's what I did for this video: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...yesterday.html (I only have the non-HD one.)

It does collect the bugs! I had a bug splat that was so bad the rest of the video was useless!

Those suction cups are strong. Every time I was in staging, someone would wave me to stop, give it a strong shake, shrug, then motion for me to go out.
