So I live in the ritziest part of Boston - which itself is a fairly ritzy city - where Porsche's, BMW's, Mercs, Ferraris are common - I would in fact say that on my street German cars outnumber Japanese or Domestics 10 to 1.
And I will tell you - I get multiple thumbs ups and compliments on my 996 with those (GASP!) FACTORY HEADLIGHTS. NO ONE has ever come to me and said "Yucky lights".
When I drive my car grinning ear to ear - I NEVER ONCE thought "Argh I love this drive but if only for the headlights".
Your feelings about this may vary, but I for one am surprised at how insecure some people have become about of all things - the headlights on a fine automobile such as this - and obsess about all sorts of ways to disguise it into a psuedo 997 - which doesn't fool any Porsche enthusiast - it just screams "I'm ashamed of my car and I'm trying to fake it".
I know I will get flamed for this,

but it is not far off from the insecure guy in the Honda putting a BMW badge on his car. (I am not comparing a 996 to a Honda - just illustrating the extent insecurity can take you)

Ha ha on the "BMW"
I remember the M3 back in the 80's, stuck in traffic on a "parkway" on a nice summer day in NYC with the windows down, and the guys next to me questioning if it's a real M3. Did they want me to open the hood and show the engine? How little I knew.
Oh, as far as the headlights go, I like mine.

I like my 996 lights and Im proud to drive one....I think those who try and make thier headlights look like 997 lights are generally driving the car for the badge on the hood and not the love of the experience. Im in this to go fast and put some rubber on the road...not to look cool.(i think most of us here fit into the driving experience is first and foremost)
Now as for the 997 lights they are more similiar to the 911 which I think are a bit appealing and kinda of an ode to the older 911s.
I drive for a living....a minimum of 250 miles a day...5-7 days a week. It is an absolute pleasure to drive the 996, even though the saab is nice.
When Im at work its a collection of domestic cars....full of brake fade and heatsoak...

+1. If you are on the fence with the MK1 lights, the aero is the answer. Frankly I don't think I would have bought a stock 996 because the proportions are a little bit off.
Those lights originally came from a GT1 and that had a lot of other sheet metal curves around which accentuate the shape of the lights. Without the extra curves, it sticks out and looks out of place IMHO.

Not really. Its a matter of taste and what works for you. I would not aero a 993 or 997 because the lines are just right but will aero a 996 because it a better package. All will need a suspension drop.

I'm a big fan of the MKI aero. I love the lines on that car. I've seen photos of the C4S aero, and I'm just not sure about that one. I think I'm going to leave mine as is... I like the C4S lines. I like the headlights on both. Sometimes I think the MKI headlights integrate into the bumper better than the MKII.
Either way, I think they are good. I don't think anybody worries too much about it, other than people on various Porsche message boards.

Love the MkI aero but wouldn't put the MkII kit on my car.
I hate.... and I mean hate, the headlight covers for the 996, techart or not, they look terrible. As other have said, I am all about the driving experience.
I have the 911 evolution picture as the background on my desktop. I love the changes that have taken place over the years.
