Default Drink holder placement question

I have a '99 996 and have found a cheap little fold-up Porsche logo'd drink holder I would like to mount in the cockpit. If I put it UNDER the leather(ette) pad on the side of the lower console can I drill in 1/2 inch into the carpeted panel and not hit some fluid or electric line? To clarify I was going to put it on the passenger side under the pad your need would hit on the lower console drilled into the carpet. What do you think?

Was the "Leaving your drink at home" a serious post?
Generally when I'm enjoying getting to or coming from an adult gathering it is critical to keep a steady BAC. You don't want it to spike or crash as it could cause impairement while driving. Safety First!

One of my pet peeves is NO food or drink in the car. My wife insists on always taking a water bottle or stopping for food and getting stuff all over the interior...drives me nutz!
