Yes, there is truth in that ^ statement. I did the MK II mod to both 3.4L and 3.6L mufflers, and the 3.6 sounded MUCH better.
However, it is my understanding that the MK I mod on the 3.4L mufflers creates a sound that is similar to the MK II mod on 3.6L mufflers.
I get that question (3.4 or 3.6 cans) all of the time. My modification sounds great on 3.4 cans as well as 3.6 cans. No need to spend the extra money on 3.6 cans. You will not be disappointing....I guarantee it!
I see you charge $375 for the core charge, is this for 3.4 or 3.6 cans
Also I see on your website a 'stage II' thingy, what is stage I ?
I mean are you doing the 'J' shape between inlet and outlet (blue mat picture)?
or opening the '3rd hole' and connect it to the outlet pipe (black mat picture) ?
You could check with a midas shop guy and see if he'd do the job. A place over here I've used for other cars has the girl in front who's just a chasier and the guy in the shop does the midications. Takes drilling holes, bending pipes, clipping cuts to fit drilled areas then welding in place.

Just to clarify, the black mat picture is not my work.
I began modifying 996 mufflers by attaching the third port to the center (exit) pipe, first pic. It is a good mod but didn't quite have the sound I was looking for. I did a second version , second pic, which has a more aggressive tone, which is pretty much the only mod I do now for 996 and 997s. It became my Stage II modification because it was the second 996 mod I did, and also it is a little louder and more aggressive sounding.
