Default Parking lot cart hazards - vent

Coming out of the supermarket I was next to my car when some guy left a shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot and the wind began to blow it on a collision course either to my 911 or a neighboring car. Because he was too !@@$@! lazy to walk an additional 20 feet and put the cart in its proper bin.

I caught the cart before it hit my car, and as I began moving it to its correct place, I proceeded to lecture the guy on taking 30 seconds to walk the cart an additional 20 feet and put it where it belongs so that it doesn't become a hazard. How hard is that!!!!? Had I not been there, the cart would have impacted my car.

I believe the world would run so much better if individuals practiced the simple notion of doing the right thing right.

Ok, thanks for the vent....

No problem on the venting which was pretty light by the way. There are some real junk brained people out there. There is a portion of the people with no respect for others prized property. The same bafoon probably keyed cars before so at least you got away lightly.

Long ago I had a neighbour scrape up my bmw. When I confronted her she said "there's more to life than nice cars". She was an old lady with a beatup Passat. I ignored her and moved on. But I realized after that - there are many people that really don't care.

When I park next to someone I am careful about not dinging their doors - whether it's an old crappy car or a new one. I respect people's property.

But I am realizing most people really don't care.

Unfortunately all too true!
IMHO, If they think they can get away with it all the better, and why bother being considerate towards others. That's just too much like hard work!

Glad to hear jsmirand made it out OK

I totally agree with you on this.

My main question is how did this go over with the dude you lectured? What was his reaction to getting his chops busted?

as much as I would like to agree with the whole thing.... do be careful "schooling" strangers - some of them are high on exstacy, packing a loaded weapon, and just got layed off.

I had an ex that would get mad at me for being anual about my cars, hince why she is now a ex.

A lot of people put about as much care in to there car as there toaster. To them its just a appliance to help them complete the comings and goings of there day. And they will never understand people that care about there cars.

Not in a million years.

In response he didn't say much, stared as he entered his car, and we each went our way.

I didn't go over the top with it, but did put his cart away. I agree starting altercations in the parking lot can be stupid, I very rarely do this type of thing, but in the moment of seeing the cart almost hit my car I chose a response as he was still there and the cart needed to be put away (and he wasn't going to do it!)

Unfortunately what you witnessed in the parking lot happened all the times everywhere. Just last weekend, it was windy around here and I heard a BOOM in the back of my car so I thought someone has just hit me while I was parked. It was pretty hard. I went out to check and saw a shopping car instead. Luckily I drove my Jeep Sahara Unlimited so it did not even scratch the bumper, Oofff I would be so mad if it was my P-car though...

I'm pretty sure that it's not quite as simple as that. I don't believe that posting a sign exempts them from liability, but I'd imagine that you'd still have to prove that the store was negligible in some way when your car got hit.

If the person you confront is high on ecstasy, you're more likely to get a hug than an argument.

A little old lady who parks next to my mother-in-law at their retirement condos has door dinged grandmama's Subaru Forester 9 times! She finally confronted the woman, who seems sort of embarrassed and promised to be more careful. No offer to fix the 9 fricking dents in the door of a basically brand new car of course...

Some people.

On the other hand, my wife helps me scout out safe parking places when we are in the Porsche.
