I was told recently by a very respected nationwide Porsche broker that 996 prices bottomed out just before the new year and are now holding steady or increasing slightly. Supply has definitely tightened.

Simple supply and demand: the people who had to sold their cars in a downturning market, supply increased, prices dropped, word got out, raising demand, and now price stabilizes. Econ 101, baby!

I am glad they are going up. You don't want your Porsche to be worth what a Nissan or Hyundai is worth ( no offense to anyone who owns either one ) I'm just saying those are common cars. Usually rare sports cars and exotics go up in value. My car will be more then to me its an asset

Actually, few sports cars go up in value. Porsches rarely so. The only Porsche road cars currently worth more than their original purchase prices adjusted for inflation would be 356s asn Speedsters, early 911s, and a few other very low production number cars. Even Carrera GTs drop in value, as do GT3s, GT2s, and other very expensive Porsches. And the more exotic? Modern Ferraris and Lamborghinis plummet in value after they are first sold.

Now, eventually the few remaining cars in a model series become rare, and therefore potentially valuable. But even that is hit and miss. Take the 968 for example. Less than 5,000 were imported to the US over 4 years. Probably 1/2 to 2/3 of those still exist - say 2 to 3 thousand total. And yet they have dropped in value significantly in the past few years.

Just some observations:
-Using eBay as a gage, 996 prices seem to have stabilized , less cars for sale(winter?)
-I restored a 356 a few years ago and wish I never sold it - great investment
-I sold my 968 last year after 2 years of ownership. Sold it for more than what I bought it for. Nice 968's are still in demand -not dogs

I've got $20 on his wife told him to sell the 911. "Honey I'm trying but nobody's buying it."
