Hey
Just a few quick questions about the 996 cabrio.
1. Is it easy to install a mkII glass window in to the mkI?
2. How long does it to remove the rag top and install the hard top?
Thanks

The mkII glass is not interchangeable. The only way to get a glass rear window is to go aftermarket, keep in mind the rear window will be much smaller though. Look here for examples

Note that the advantage of the plastic window is that it's bigger that the tops with glass windows -- better rear view. Disadvantage is that is gets yellow/cracks/etc. over time. So it's a tradeoff. pfb111 is right. Because the opening is bigger, you can't just install a glass window in a top designed for a plastic window. You need a new top designed for glass.

I found this particular electric hoist well priced and installed myself with hardware provided and added a cable around the motor bracket as a redundant safety to prevent the motor from falling. it has 7 lag bolts going from a bracket ( behind the drywall ) into the joist right above (total time to install: about 3 hours)
the hoist states a load raing of 400 lbs, IIRC.
the hardtop stays out of the way and about 5 minutes from start to finish to back the car into the garage and either remove or install the hard top.

I built a low-budget simple pulley system hard top hoist. You can see a full write-up here:

For about $69 I got an electric hoist from Harbor Freight. Mounted it on the wall, pulley on a rafter. For a similar amount, found a harness for the hard top (just straps and fittings that can store easily when not in use). Makes it a straightforward, 1 person, on and off.

The E Z Lifts are first rate, and anyone could easily emulate them (reverse engineer). On the wall for padding so I don't damage the car doors is a length of fire hose material that I have filled with styrofoam peanuts--and then screwed to the wall every 18 inches.
