It hit while I was under the car today finishing my IMS bearing.
What if.... You could join a club that rented a 3 bay garage with 2 lifts.
And that also to allow people to join from father away woudl also rent a Motel room by the month.
Dues woudl be monthly, They would be bills divided by the amount of memeber +15% for expansion.
Any porsche owner woudl be welcome. and of course we would have rules.... But basically speaking about the idea....
Whats it worth and woudl you join? Of course we would have club events and what not.
I go to the Motorplex for their monthly cars & coffee. It is VERY nice. People have quarters above their garages for relaxation and conversation. Those place are the bomb. Big Screens, pool tables, real manly men stuff. It is a little slice of heaven....your baby down in the heated & air conditioned garage waiting for you to, at your leisure, fondle, rub, .......wait. It's nice, thats all I'm goin' to say. It is a little pricey for me, but I think I would be in for something like, maybe, a main garage encircled by, ummm, trailers? Okay, maybe pre-fabs, with maybe a racetrack, yeah....and Hooter's, and.........
Seriously, I would be in for something affordable....How about all those empty warehouses for sale, or the empty big box type store buildings?
Years ago there was a place near me called Rent a Wrench, where you could rent a bay with a lift by the hour, also some tools, or you could bring your own. It was a great place, but was not around for very long.
Years ago we had a rent a lift- but it went under. Problems probably include insurance, insufficient volume, do you bring your tools or use theirs, and is it just cheaper to buy a $2k lift.
Our local Porsche group has 'wrencing parties' and we get together to work on the cars. I bought a lift a couple of years ago, but it was justified based on how much I DIY and the side business of restoring cars. Also nice to work on the cars in the evening and be connected to home.
I have access to the auto hobby shop at the local navy base. It's a well equipped shop with $2.50/hr lift bays, and free tool loans. I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes; usually, I just drive right in. So spoiled
I did a google check for the Chicago area and could not find any bays to rent. Sure could use one in the next week or so. Need to check my Cam timing and it is too cold to do it in my unheated garage. It would only take an hour or two if I had access to a lift.

Why not get a forced air kerosene heater? Only about $200-$250. I use my a lot in the winter, even if it is just to clean and organize.
