Default Fabspeed Maxflo Competition Air Intake

Why can't I find anything in the 996 forum on this? Is it that new?

* Fits all 996 Vehicles 1998-2005
* Dyno proven and verified + 22 HP. Power increased all across the RPM band. You can easily feel the power in the seat of your pants.
* Major increase in throttle response and driveability.
* Highest increased airflow of any air-intake systems offered for these cars. 90mm 3.5” thin wall carbon fiber tubing with highflow airfilter.
* Cold Air professional race quality systems for all Porsche 996 streetcars and drivers education and GRAND-AM professional race cars.
* System comes with carbon fiber heat shield and all parts for a do-it-yourself installation
* Compliments any other bolt-on modifications.
* On a stock 996 makes the car sound very sporty and sound great.

Anybody ???

How in the world do you keep it from sucking in the hot engine air? More like -22hp

Sure looks purrrrrty though.

I'd want to see dyno tests before I'd believe 22hp, and I just don't like performance filter elements.

Interesting; check out how close the MAF is to the intake.

+1. I find it hard to believe a 22hp increase. Looks good though.

Nice use of carbon fiber (very clean and simple design) and I bet it sounds good, too. Anyone buying this thing for a HP bump is in for a disappointment, though.

Now if they could create a carbon fiber shell to keep the ram air into the filter and keep the hot air away. It seems every other car has 2-5 different variations on a cold air kit from the aftermarket. The 996 has few options for a CAI and fewer that actually look like they'll help.

Water vapor ingestion: I don't see how this design could avoid it if the car is started after being parked outside in the rain? That round filter looks to be directly below the hole in the engine lid. It would get saturated, no?

Yes. It seams like the position of the filter makes sense but it should be shrouded from the engine better. But also when I look at the Evoms system I am thinking that the air has to flow through a system of hot plastic molding and a hot triangular plastic box before reaching the engine. The Fabspeed's filter position and heat shield might be better. You need temp. readings at the filter, perhaps, too see. Fabspeed's looks better for sure.

Dude,

Go with the EVOMS CAI.

Some of Fabspeed's intake stuff is pretty hokey IMO.

I'd like to see the air inlet temperatures between the two... Maybe I'll do that.
