I just bottled this one up last weekend. I've made it before - it's quite good.

Next on my list is a porter (also from the Dogfish Head recipe book).

you don't have to fill the motive w/ brake fluid. I don't. I just use it to pressurize the reservoir. Just make sure your reservoir doesn't dip below the min line and suck in air.

so its ok to disconnect the motive, add brake fluid, reconnect, re pressurize mid process? say after removing each wheel...

Sure - no problem with that.

Are you just bleeding them, or doing a full fluid flush? If doing a full flush, you may be taking the motive off a bunch of times... I go through a liter or 2 when I do a flush.

From my experience, the best way to do a flush is to pressurize the bleeder with NO FLUID IN IT and open the RR caliper and bleed until nothing is left. Then do the same for each of the others. Then fill the brake reservoir and the rest into the bleeder (using 2 liters). Then start again at the RR and go until the fluid starts to flow and no bubbles. Voila!

Bled mine last year with the Motive, when I did new pads & rotors
Whats the deal with the using the durametic to bleed the ABS pump? I did not have a duramatric when I did my brakes but I have one now.

new 6.x durametric has 3 buttons to activate abs pump... (3 on and 3 off - not sure why)

Just got an unexpected call back from the dealership this AM. The lady said she confirmed the price again and it IS $430 due to 2 hours labor involved.

FYI, I also asked about ATF and final drive flush and (are you sitting down?) total from them for the work is $1630 + tax.

they have appointments available for next business day (I wonder why).

You can call my guy in East Norwalk across the street from Metro North RR station. My car is at his place for the 90K tune up and a complete freshen up right now. His price is very competitive. You can get to his place and back on the train from NYC.

Thanks chsu74. There are a few closer alternatives. my research has come up with formula motor sport in LIC and SM motorsport in Nassau. Also, got in touch with Bill Rudtner who is away in Sebring right now.

Or can always go to my regular guy who is 1 mile away from me, seems competent but rather old school.

I find no reason to go to dealers for service unless the car is under warranty.

Also look into Rick DeMan - he's not too far away.

I think Powertech in NJ also has a lot of 996 expertise.

nothing wrong with old school for a brake flush - just so he knows not to drag grease inside the car, and not to touch the paint ANYWHERE!!
