I tried to copy the link for those who were looking for a hardtop. Its in the rennlist classifieds 12-31-09.
goodluck.

3 YES 3, 996 Hardtops (grey, maroon, black)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey,

I am helping my friend's father get rid of a bunch of Porsche stuff. I have 3 hardtops from 996s. I am located in Westchester NY and would like to sell locally. I have no way to ship them but am willing to travel a little to get these moved. All tops are in great shape, don't recall seeing any issues. They are a little dusty in the pics.

Looking for $900 per hardtop. I also have stands avail if you are interested.

Thanks!!

Ok folks,

Can you confirm that this receiver is like Part D? So I would need a screw pin?

Yes, you have the old style receiver (Part D in the illustration).

Do you know what year 996 your new top is from? If it is an early <2002 996, then you are most likely good to go with the attachment hardware that the top has installed.

If your top has the newer screw in hardware, I would recommend that you replace your existing receivers with the new screw-in ones.

I would never stand anything that valuable on concrete and risk scratching it all up

Orient,

So, is it the Pin/Screw that turns to lock in place? If so, where does the "hex" wrench come into place?

Well, I'm not sure what year top it is yet...

Thanks,

The Hex wrench is used to engage the locking pin. It fits in the top of the pin, and you use it to lock/unlock the pin. The instructions are in your owners manual.

Ok...now I see.

Just in case I have to change the receiver, do y'all know how much it costs and if dealers have em?

Thanks,

Just got my top! Great condition. Unfortunately it has the newer pin. I'm going to have to swap out the receivers.

I'll trade you a set of bayonet locks for 'em!

Pricing I got from Sunset for new receivers is 130.00

The screw locks are much better than the bayonet locks. Be sure to lubricate the windshield header gasket with silicone spray, and put a little lithium grease on the thread locks and on the 2 outboard windshield header alignment pins. The thread locks are only tightened to 32 ft/lb. All of this will minimize squeaking & creaking.

Here are the part numbers and prices from Sunset for the screw receivers and bolts to go with them.

996.561.653.04 $130.80
996.561.654.04 $130.80
900.378.173.09 $.48

Also, I attached the TSB, whence came the part numbers.

Bobby,

Local dealer gave me a employee pricing of $125 for those parts. I didn't purchase the screws tho.. Can you not reuse the screws already on the car?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Not sure, the dude at Sunset listed them on my quote so I went ahead and listed them for you. I figured it was worth the $1 just in case.

Getting a hardtop has not been an easy process. The only consolations have been it's the perfect color match and I paid $150 for it. The shipping was $420..and now I'm about to spend another $200 (have a $50 gift card from Porsche dealer) for the receivers. Tho, I think it will be worth it once I have the top on.
