Has anybody owned another car that they were as fearful of breaking? I haven't. I know some on here say "if it goes I'll just fix it, so what". I have yet to see a post the that reads "whoohoo, IMS failed!!" My fingers are crossed.

That sucks, hopefully it can be rectified in a mutually satisfying manner.

Yeah, It will be. "You pay for it and well be glad to take your 15K."

I WOULD NOT give the money to PAG to fix it. Find someone else. Everytime another motor gets ordered they must freaking get a **** eating grin on their face.....

PAG is ****ing the chicken while we are holding the head that bites.

Sorry to hear about it.. It also happened to me, and it took me a long while before accepting the situation. Screaming at PNA did help, and threatning to sue didnt hurt either.

My mechanic/therapist helped me get over it, firstly saying that PNA discounts these engines as assuming part of the guilt, and the new engine has a 2 year warranty. The sooner you have the engine replaced the better, since knowing your car is undrivable will make you more upset..
Hope this helps.

New Year's Resolution: Stop waffling on buying that expended warranty I talked to the local dealer about!

Hope it is not as bad as we all fear... I have friends who had luck getting their local dealer/PCNA to come up with a few thousand towards the cost of a new engine. One had not bought the car there - both were PCA members.

I've debated getting a warranty. I can get 2yr/24k from EasyCare for 2500. That buys me two years of sound mind. I would rather put in the LN upgrade, a new clutch, and new seals. This will give me the soundness I need, as well as the next owner well beyond the warranty period.

hanks for all your support, i have spent the day calling various dealerships and so far 13K without core is the cheapest i have found.
i remember someone back talking about a 3.8 x50 engine for 8K, can anyone elaborate? which engine is it and if it will fit? car will be towed to the collection tomorrow, i just want to have some ideas before showing up with my baseball bat
i only owned the car for few months, and has been a great driver!! the 60k maintenance was done recently and everything looked great!!
these are the days i miss my 964

Good luck - hopefully it isn't the worst case scenario.

My biggest fear is having some doofus in an SUV total the car. Then the whole thing is gone. But if the engine goes, at least it's replacable.

To ClickClickBoom - most people get upset even when little crap breaks. I'm sure no one's thrilled to have an IMS failure. But we all know the risk, and many people have had favorable outcomes.

At least if your car gets totaled, the insurance pays for another one! Better than a $13k bill !

Mike, first I am sorry your motor went south. This is unraveling for anyone and expensive to deal with.
However I am curious - did you have any unusual motor noises prior to detonation while starting the motor, especially cold? The noise I am asking about is delayed for a second or 2 after turning the key and usually starts and ends right before the car starts up and then it is gone. Once the car is warm is is non existant.
Someone told me this could be a symptom of a car that has pre IMS failure issues. Can anyone else elaborate?
