I want to replace the factory cd holders in my car with a storage shelf to later install a homelink. How do I remove them and whats a good source for the shelf? Also... How do I remove the center console? Want to refinish it... Thanks... You all are teaching me a great deal!

There's been a few words and pictures posted here on the removal of the centre console. The thread below should tell you everything you need to know about the nuts and bolts of the job. Lot's of chatter for the first two pages but on page 3 there's a really good link with pics (post 36) as well a full write up by yours truly to fill in the gaps (post 38).

Open all 5 CD trays then grab all of them and pull. The CD holder will come right out. Slide in the storage shelf. The swap takes 8.43 seconds.

It is super easy, did it myself along with putting in a non-smoking ash tray. CD tray comes right out and the storage bin slides right in.

+1 Very easy swap. Then sell the CD holder on Ebay to make back all the money you spent on the shelf.

Confirmed. About this much time.

Performed tonight. Told wife I was going to make a mod to the car.
"Are you sure? A bit late to start working on the car". Was back within 2 minutes (time to remove the cover, etc.). Fastest mod ever.
