Worked fine. Took 20 mins..

Note you also need to remove the HVAC pipe that carries air to the side vent.

Spent most of the time trying to get the stupid HVAC pipe to fit back in.

True, sorry I forgot that. Actively, because of the PITAness of it... Did you enjoy the ergonomics of the job?

Let's put it this way, job prerequisites include small and contortionist.

Pics tonight.

Mine kind of looks like your, Fergus. Another thing to add to the "chore" list... Along with: "build 914 engine" and "make race car 100 lbs lighter".

P.S. That's one of the reasons I like my 996 so much - it's needed such minimal work... although I should look into fixing that keyless entry.

Default Pictures of the final outcome

Not quite perfect, but reasonably close.

Is the cover your are talking about the foam type black cover in the foot-well? It is held in with 3 plastic type plugs? How do you remove those plugs?

Thanks!

4. Tighten the bolts.

Done.

I had to remove my airbag temporarily when I was installing Eberspächer heater. Before that the cover was not flush at the bottom, now it is. I also was worried about my airbag being deployed, but it was made 1999.

bumping an older thread, but can anyone tell me how to do this same procedure in an '02+ car with a glovebox?

What needs to be removed from the glovebox area to access the (2) bolts to push the cover and airbag back?

Thanks!

Mine looks similar. But with a black interior it doesn't catch my eye.

Bump bump.

I've got a black/black 2002 Targa which needs to be adjusted, can anyone provide instructions on a 2002+ 996 with a glovebox? I can actually see some white behind the cover and its really been bothering me...

This problem had been bothering me since I bought my 2002 996 in 2008. I thought the airbag had been deployed at one point, but am glad to find it's just a fitment issue. This community is awesome.
