My 2004 C4s was towed by a wheel lift tow truck for prob. twenty or thirty miles. anybody have any experience with what this will do to the Viscous Coupling. Thanks

Not a good idea. All 4 wheel drive vehicles need a flatbed tow truck. I guess if you lift the front wheels in he air and they can spin it might not put too much stain on the viscous coupling, but it is not the desired way to do it. Remember that there is a minimum of 5% engagement of the front wheels, and a max of 40% I think.

Hopefully they did not damage the front differential where the coupling is.

they didn't use a dolly? That puts all 4 wheels off the ground.

I didn't realize I had a finance charge from throwing a payment on the end of the note. The Repo guy came for it and I told him there must be a mistake. He left only after I called the police. I payed my finance charge the next day. Two days later the car was gone. The bank said the reposession company must apparently didn't get the Fax. There was evidence they used a wheel lift, plus I would have heard a flatbed in my driveway for five minutes. Anyway they called and said they would be bringing it back. I told them to tow it to the dealer!

oowh, that sounds bad...

I hate to tell you this but if your car was towed that far with 2 wheels of the ground you should have some considerable damage to your vis. coup.

You might be lucky but if I was you I would get it checked, this way you have a recourse and might be able to get the towing company to pay for any repair costs.

I was going to put some 19" rims on the back of my C4S and matching 18's in front (to get a more aggressive stands) when the dealer told me that would irreparable damage my 4 wheel drive...

He then proceeded to tell me some horror stories about towing and dino beds.

I hope everything turns out well for you.

Best,

Sid.

At least if you have this documented, then you can have some recourse for the repairs to your car.

Also, how did they take the car out of gear and undo the parking brake? Did they break the window or did they have a master key of some sort so that the alarm wouldn't go off?

I'll bet you anything they just lifted it and dragged the shi# out of it!!!
Probably never checked to see if it was a 4 wheel drive, most people are surprised to hear a 911 can have a 4x4.

It's like that commercial with the soccer game where the player gets the ball right in the groin... except with this one it's every C4S owner that's flinching at the thought of this happening to his car, ouch!

Make the bad man STOP!

I would say that if you can prove that the finance charge was paid prior to the towing, the bank and the towing company have a major liability. Basically they stole the car. I would report the car as stolen and let the bank and the repo company explain their mistake to the police.

Trying to collect from either may be a major challenge.

Quick sidebar: I don't have any experience with them, but banks don't typically repo a vehicle unless multiple payments are missed; they never stole anything; it always belonged to them.

False police report? Better rethink that one as well.

Lots of people forget, unless you hold the title/note, you don't own it

If the car was leased it belongs to the leasing company or the bank. If it was purchased, then it belongs to the buyer, and the bank has a lien on it. They may hold the physical title, but it should not be in their name. I know that when I bought my car through Porsche Financial, they held the title, but it was in my name. Once it was paid off they signed off on it, releasing the lien, and sent it to me. They did not own the car, I did, subject to their lien.

Under the terms of the lien, and by law, they may have had a right to reposses the car if I missed a payment(s), but if I paid the loan prior to the date of the repossession then it would not have been a legal repossession.
