So you are looking for a standard 996 shifter? I have one out of a 2001. Pay for shipping and it is yours.

I posted the same request on the 997 forum. Wound up paying $100 for a 997 shifter.

997 Shifter Box is 35% Shorter Throw than the 996... Thats why 997 box is worth something, because it an Upgrade for the 996's... I too paid $100 for my 997 Shifter Box

Where did you get this number? The factory SSK is only 20%.
996 console suited my needs better

Yeah, I remember seeing it is 15% shorter, but less sloppy and just as smooth.

Just took the car for a spin, the new shifter is MUCH better than the stock shifter! No slop at all, more bolt action rifle like, yet not much more effort. I imagine it's between the stock shifter and a short shift kit.
Side bar: How do I know the shifter is adjusted properly? I marked the cable with a sharpie, and it wound up in the same place as the stock shifter cable ends. But is there a way to tell if the cables are adjusted perfectly?
