I think I'm in the minority because I prefer the MkI lights to the MkII lights...I bought my MkII for all of the other upgrades.

As far as 996 vs 997....you know, I'm still undecided.

As far as the biscuit story. That seemed a little odd if I'm honest. I mean I can see how a guy could appreciate the biscuit platform, and wonder if it was an engineered thing. I just can't quite imagine coming home after a day at the track and posting about it.

Nevertheless, next time I am in need of somewhere to put fast food, I'll probably remember this thread so all in all - thanks I guess.

It probably works well for burritos too.

The guy lost me when he added sweetener to his iced tea. That's a crime.

I don't care if he likes the headlights or not - I like them.

(no lemon, Un-sweet with a side of sweet and low)

I dont think the OP added the seetener to the tea, rather ?? snorted it ?? as he states it was "on the side" ?

Is there a platform on the 996 for snorting stuff or was that only in the 80's cars?

I am proud to say that I prefer the Mk I headlights over the Mk II and 997. I have owned two of each type 996. The 997 headlights may be "classic" but they are just boring. I will not badmouth the MK II headlights. I just personally don't care for the droopy-eyed thing, myself. Same applies to the 997.2 taillights.
Just me. My personal taste.

As an aside, I want to hijack this thread by starting a conversation about why the 996 has a MK I and MK II, but the 997 has a 997 and a 997.2 (rather than a MK II). Is this question an ENZO?

And what about the difference between early 993's and late 993's. I don't recall them using any specific jargon to differentiate them, and I have purchased a new one of each of those.

Huh... Just asking.

Not sure about the Mk vs Dot..
But there was never a serious update to the 993 as the have been to the 996/997 models do to differentiate. Isn't it more like vario or not in a 993? (95 vs 96+)
993 had a much shorter run than the following models.

Me too. The Mk 1 headlights are the ones that the designer meant to go with the lines of this body. The later headlights weren't a design decision, they were a marketing decision. With the 997, I always felt like Porsche blinked instead of doing what it damn well pleased. Doing as they damn well please, for better or worse, is what makes Porsche Porsche.

Nothing against the 997, of course--I bought as new as I could afford a few years ago.
Jon, as I was scrolling, I thought you had posted a pic of my car...until I saw the driver, plates, interior leather, and wheels... heh

I like the MK II headlights, but I must admit that the MK I headlights do seem to flow with the lines of the body a little bit better.

I have a 996 and im ok with the headlights, they are by far not my favorate part of the 996. The 997 looks more like the classic 911 thats just a fact. The reason porsche used the 996 fried egg look was to save on costs, thats also the reason most of the front end is boxster. Thats all, and it turned out to be a bad move as most classic porsche lovers, who are a fan of the slow evolution of the 911 DID NOT LIKE IT. I bought my 1999 996 C2 CPO from the dealer after the MKII were out it was a good deal then as it is now. So if you like the car and the way it drives the headlights dont seem to matter as much.

One other thing people love to modify 911s myself included. Especially classics like the 1960s 911 and the 964. People like Singer and Magnus walker change the look of the 911 all the time. Most of the work they do is amazing and not originally what was meant for that model 911. so if you dont like your headlights and you can inprove them ... then why not, make it your personal look.

If the 996 and its lights are so bad and "Porsche" lovers hated them so much, why is the 996 and the 986 some of the highest selling P-cars of all time?

and stop bashing the 986. I have both a 986 S and 996 and I have to say other than the extra power of the 3.6, I like the way the 986 drives better

flame on.....

and OP ( I know its a while ago) if your blood sugar is low, why do you put sweet and low in your tea. That crap is all chemicals and bad for you. Plain old sugar is much better for you
