I change to the winter wheels on all three cars first chance I get after Thanksgiving. I tell myself I'm burning off some of those extra holiday calories when I do it.

It's part of my Thanksgiving weekend in Delaware, along with preparing the snow blower. We usually see the first dusting of snow in early December.

Alright... so I put the winter wheels and tires on today. The Sport Technos look great on the car. I'll post a pic tomorrow. Temperatures here are starting to drop into the 30s regularly, so I think the time was right. It also gave me a great opportunity to clean off my dirty calipers.

A couple of interesting observations. First of all, the Sumitomo HTR Z III tires that I put on in March are still looking very good. I've logged about 7,700 miles on them, and they appear to be wearing very evenly, front and rear. Secondly, I noticed when cleaning my summer wheels that my Turbo Look II wheels (aka "solids") weren't really solid spokes. They have two large grooves cut out in all the spokes, making them semi-hollow. Does anybody know how this compares to the standard turbo wheels? I was expecting them to be totally solid, not grooved out. Finally, I realized that my summer wheels could really stand to be refurbished. They aren't terrible, but 3 of the 4 have some minor curb rash. I'm trying to decide how to get them fixed. My local dealer says he has a guy who repairs Porsche wheels for $50 - $75 per wheel, depending on the amount of damage. I may try that. Add in some fresh center caps, they'll look as good as new next spring when I put them back on!

Last question - does anybody have any recommendations for air pressure in winter tires? I assume they are the same as summer tires, but I'm not sure. I'll look through the manual tonight.

Winter tires should always be run at the highest recommended pressure for the car they're on. So, for us, I think that's 36/44. (This assumes that you're running the correct width of tire for the rim).

Here are the pics of the new wheels. The first one is in my driveway, the second is on my street. I'm very pleased with the way it came out.

Thanks Bruce. These are the Porsche recommended rim and tire sizes for winter wheels, so the highest recommended pressure should be okay for me.
