I have a 2013 997.2 TT with the same sunroof switch problems as the original poster. Can anyone please explain the reset or reprogramming procedure? I've tried the hold down close button ten seconds and this does nothing! HELP!!!

Well...bumping this thread because I have the exact symptoms on my 2006 997. I posted this question on the 997 forum with no responses so far.

I have a similar issue with my 996 turbo. Reset procedure works for me and then I can one touch open/close the sunroof but once I turn of the power I lose it again. From searching around it sounds like replacing the motor would fix it but obviously would like to avoid that since motor works.

The only fix is to change the motor because the electrical circuitry is within the motor. I am kind of living without one touch open as I don't open sunroof all that often. But it seems its a crap fail prone system. I bet its an every 5 year failure item as forums are now littered with this problem.

I was doing a quick research on the Porsche 996 sunroof motor and came across the motor used on an infinity G35 wich looks exactly the same as the Porsche one. Both are Siemens with part numbers 770.60003. Of course a fraction of the cost on eBay! Has anyone here tried to retrofit one of these motors on their Porsche?

Going to post here as well as mine started doing the same thing a few months ago. I have it on my list to fix and will post if/when I figure out a solution.
