Sunroof Help
I've searched the forums and found the sunroof reset procedure, but still can't seem to figure out the issue I am having...
I have a 2001 996 coupe. When operating the sunroof the back button will not work upon initially pressing it. Neither will the vent button. But if I push the forward button, the sunroof will raise. Then push the forward or back button again, it will close. Then, if I push the back button, it will open up fully. Seems a bit finnicky.
Additionally, the sunroof reset procedure will not work for me or perhaps I am doing it wrong.
Any help appreciated.

Mine ('99 C4) acts exactly the same way. I did the reset procedure and it still operates as you described. Not like the owner's manual describes. So I am very interested to find what others are experiencing.

On mine the center button raises the rear of the sunroof (vent position..??) and pressing the front of the button assembly closes it. To "slide" to the rear, open the sunroof, I depress the rearmost button of the assembly. closing is the same for both.

Same thing here
I have a 99 that acts the same way. The reset procedure
fixed the one touch open, but it won't open at all unless the pop up open and close procedure is done first.
Hope somebody has the answer -- seems as of this glitch is not uncommon.

I just checked the TSBs for the 996, and turned up nothing. I thought there might be something there since this is apparently a common problem.

WTF? All of us have the same issue. Has anyone else seen this and have a fix for it? Do we need a new switch assembly? Or can it be fixed through the reset procedure? I haven't had any luck.
Any advice appreciated.

SOP.
My guess in your case is that over time and driving the sunroof remains closed to the mechanical stop but the limit switch that indicates the sunroof is fully closed from the vent position is not actuated and the "cycle" is required to get it to actuate.

OK, I have the same sunroof problems w/ my 2001 996...I can get it to operate but by jumping through the same hoops described. Any idea how to fix? BTW- where can I find the "reset" procedure?

I can close my sunroof completely!
Close sunroof and hold the close button for 10 seconds and then it goes to reset procedure for full closure.

hey guys a bit of a thread revival here...I still have this problem unresolved. Reteaching will make it work until you turn the car on and off. I also have a rattle when the roof is closed that goes away by applying light pressure on the inside of the roof.
Any help here? I also tried to remove the sunroof panel in accordance with the shop manual but couldn't figure out what parts it was talking about when it mentions disengaging the "sliding/tilting roof trim"
