Default What's wrong with my idle??

My 01 C2 cab with 63K miles idles at 650 RPM. The needle points just over the 3rd hash mark. The idle is actually pretty smooth. The problem is when I start the car when it is already warmed up. Here's the scenerio: I'll stop to pick up something at a store after driving around for an hour or more. I try to start up the car again, the engine catches immediately, revs up really high and as the revs come down, the engine stalls. All this happens in about 3 seconds.
Any ideas? I know my idle is a bit low too....

My guess...
Have you checked or cleaned the throttle body yet?
Also, you might have the idle control valve in your 01 (not sure), if so, check that as well to see if that needs cleaning.

does the MAF have anything to do with this? - I am no expert on electrical things, thats for sure. it sounds like something not giving the correct signal to control the idle. -

is the A/C on?
could be low battery voltage -

someone should pop in with some suggestions shortly - hang tough!

Most likely the MAF. Unplug it and see it it gets any worse. If not, change it...

OK,
I am going to work on this tommorow. I'll get some throttle body cleaner and some electrical spray cleaner. I'll clean the thottle body, pull the MAF and clean it, and check if I have an idle control valve. I still don't know if the 01 has it...
I have never touched the engine on this car, so I'm hoping it goes well.

I have a similar issue.

2001 C4 w/90k miles. Started around 80-85k. When already warmed up, the car starts, but then immediately wants to turn off. It hasn't stalled yet, but I suppose it's inevitable.

It happens frequently enough to cause serious concern, but not consistently enough to reproduce on demand for a mechanic.
