Default 3.6 mufflers on a 3.4....will it fit?

I know this has been asked before. But I need to borrow a set of stock mufflers for laguna seca next weekend. My friend has his stock ones from a 2003 c4s he can let me borrow.

Will these bolt onto my 1999?

I do not care about where the tips are since my rear bumper is thrashed anyway.

Will these quiet down the car the same as the 3.4 cans would?

I am going to be running mufflers and no cats so I need them as quiet as possible.

You have to use the 3.4 brackets, tho.

I think I might have the 3.4 brackets kicking around somewhere, I'm going to go pick up the 3.6 cans at lunch and hopefully it all fits together.

Thanks guys. There was so much talk about hacking them when I searched, but none about making my car quieter. I guess people don't like to mod things to be quieter.

These are not difficult to install, but on my MY00 996, I did have to swap the connector backing plate (number 28, the 3 bolts (16) didn't line up on the car). You just remove the bolts 24 and 25, swap out #28 and you're golden. Also, putting on the tips requires the screwdriver X, which is posted somewhere in detail. The first time, it takes about an hour a side. And a lot of cursing. After that, it's pretty quick.

Tim's famous annotated muffler install diagram is posted below for reference.

Yes, just stock from an 03 C4S. Your stock tips will fit just fine.

unfortunately, I do not have my stock tips. But what I do have is a rear bumper that's already met 1 wall and I really don't care much about.

I think you'll make the noise regs without needing real tips!

tips dont cut noise, just transfer the exhaust from the muffler to the rear of the the car - and they are only a few inches long.....

I run 3.6 cans on a 3.4 - even with a hack mod they are very quiet and would make sound spec IMO

I am not running any cats, so that's where the concern comes from.

awe ha

cotton.... that is your answer... lots and lots of cotton

It must suck to have to tone down something you love just for some new rule... I mean its a race track for goodness sake - poeple bought property NEXT TO the race track because why.... it was CHEAP! and why was it cheap.... because it's NOISY... then the biach about the noise and pass laws...

It is actually very very expensive land, and the track is owned by the county. And the people that own the land, aside from building next to a noisy track when they like quiet, are pretty smart and were able to cause such rules.

The cans fit with the 99 brackets. We haven't put the bumper back on yet, and I haven't heard it yet, but im hoping it works.
