Default Jacking for brake job...

Hi all,

I will be replacing pads and rotors for the front end. I will perform one wheel at a time and I wonder if that is a safe idea, or should I jack up the whole front to work on both wheels at a time? Attached some photos where I jacked the car up at the left rear jacking point, and a jack stand at the left front point. Do these look safe to you? Especially the placement of the jack stand.

thanks,
Andy

It's not the 'jacks' per se - but more so the ------ color...

just kidding - looks safe to me. I always try to keep my hydraulic lift tight under car if possible - j u s t in c a s e

I know I know, the camera flash made it look pink, how cute. thanks for the reply and tip. I was concerned because the jack stand isn't centered with the jacking point, that's all. Or should I locate he stand to the lower control arm instead??

Thanks,
Andy

I'm going to defer to those that have trod that ground more often than I - interested to hear their response.

If you are just doing one wheel at a time....I would just jack up on the front point and leave it at that... The jack stands are kind of tall and twist the body more than I like... if you keep the back even then its cool, but still kind of high.........

I lowered mine on blocks of wood with a hockey pucks and took the entire front suspension out... either way, its surely safe enough, i just like it closer to the ground for wheel work...

...ditto and a very critical observation that I overlooked. "Just enough to get the job done..."

Man I hate jacking up cars....

Looks like it is not centered on the jacking point= unsafe also I would do both at the same time that way you can look at the other side to compare it need be. 3 cents

The photo color really messed up I guess, the side markers are silver, a bit of a darker silver. Back to the topic, what is a lowest jack stand in the market for our cars. I agree that the stand I have is a bit too high for such work.

I got mine at xenonmods.com just sent an email and said what I wanted and he gave me a price... they came in a couple days - they are silver when not lit - amber when lit (so they are legal and "right") been in a year, no troubles..

here isthe best before and after pics I have of the bulb swap
