Default WTB: Wheels for nb 996 1999 18"

Looking for some 18" wheels for my 1999 c2. Really like the Gt3 wheels, but they are pretty expensive. Would consider other wheels as well. You can send me pics to (ohwegener@hotmail.com). Scratched and repairable wheels are ok.

Let me see what you got.

I have a set of NB turbo twist track wheels (aftermarket wheels). 8" and 10" X18.

How does $500 plus shipping work for you?

Cheers,

Tom

I have seen a number of GT3 (or the Porsche Sport wheels which are the same just 7.5 in the front instead of 8 for your model car for sale on here an 6speed. They were very good prices. Kept looking and you find a set if that is what you want.

They are the same (for the MK1). Fronts are 7.5 inch instead of 8 for the GT3

I have a 02 C4 (996), i.e.: a narrow body. Be carefull with the offset, not taking care of it cost me an additional set recently!
The 18" Turbo Twist original come in 18/ 8 x 50 offset, that are good for in Front in both a narrow body and wide body (turbo of C4s), but the original rears are 18/ 11 x 45 offset and these shows off the body !
(of a narrow body).
I found another set, that is pure aftermarket product, looks absolutely the same as the original Turbo's, but are not "Hollow" design (You only see that if you look from the inside !!) They are made in Poland ! These are 18/ 10 x 65 offset in the rear and these fit perfectly a narrow body !

With what I learnt in this shoot, I can add that the original Turbo Twist are made in Germany, by BBS, and when you look at them from the inside, you "see and feel" that they are "Hollow" spokes !
Note that I'm talking about the ones that have the "lip" inside, looking exactely as the Turbo ones. (I have seen on Boxters and on 996s an other type of Turbo Twist that have a rounded inside , instead of that typical "lip" !

I can add that I kept (also) my original 17" and they have Michelin PS on it, the same tires that I have on the 18" and, .. by switching from one set to the other (I did it recently, to remove Kuhmos on the 18" and put 4 new MPS), you will realize that on the same tires, the 18" gives you a much harder feel of the road compare to the 17"

..my 2 cents on these 2 sizes !

It doesn't seem like you are referring to the stock 18" turbo twist wheel offered by the factory on the C2 996s because those weren't hollow and were 18x7.5 ET 50 front and 18x10 ET65 rear.

When you say "18" Turbo Twists original" I think you are referring to an older non-996 wheel from the 993 which was hollowspoke and did come in both narrow body and wide body offsets.

Edit: Added a link to an old post with the Part #'s for the hollowspoke and turbolook

to Paul 996,

..no, what I call "original" Turbo Twist, are the ones that are the from the 996 Turbo's.
The parts are, front, 8Jx18 ET50:
996.362.142.04,
and, rear, 11JX18 ET45:
996.363.142.03
These have hollow spokes
..and what I call the "inside lip" and looks quite different thant the ones that have no "lip" but a "rounded shape" !

If you mount these on a 996 "narrow body", like my 02 C4 cab, fronts are fine, but rears sticks out, outside of the body, ..while they looks fine and original on a "wide body", i.e.: a C4S !

My C4S came with the "Turbo Look II" wheel, which looks just like the turbo wheel, but it is solid rather than hollow spoke.

Strange Dennis,

Did you ever looked at what' is written on the "back" of the wheels ?
I have seen already a (996) C4S, with solid spokes (when you know, it is easy to put your finger on it) and feel (what you cannot see) to know if that spoke is hollow or solid ! (OK, ..you get a finger full of brake durst in return, ..that the price of the info !)
I would be interested to know if your "non hollow" are "Porsche" original or aftermarket.
Note that the Porsche ones, (see above the part numbers) are made by BBS (in Germany).

As, I did not liked my "too wide" rear wheels that were a little out of the body, the only "thing" I found (and bought) was aftermarket wheels, that are pure copies of the TT's, ..but made in Poland ! And I switched ..and stocked the originals in my garage !
The rears are 8Jx10, ET65 and they fit perfectly the narrow body.

I came to the conclusion that if I wanted the Turbo Twist with the "lips", on my narrow body, I had no choices but going to aftermarket !! I admitt, ..a kind of strange choice !!
(..too bad that I did not pick a C4S in beg 02, ..but this was another story !)

Here.. I'll copy and paste from the other thread

There are call Turbo Look II wheels. You picked up the wrong set which is made for the Turbo and C4S which are both wide body.

For the narrow body cars you only have one choice from OEM for that wheel but they are only available as solid spokes for narrow body offsets:
996.362.140.04, 18x10 ET 65, weight: 13kg
996.362.136.01, 18x8 ET 50, weight: 11.9kg

Look at the picture on Post #12. Is that the wheel you are talking about?

Look at the picture on Post #12. Is that the wheel you are talking about?
Hello Paul,
Yes, these are the ones.
..So, I learn now that they do exist in OEM, I did not know that. (This is why after I miss my first shot with the ex turbo ones, I went with the aftermarket ones !)
Thanks for the accurate information.

And, after this experience, this is why I tried to be accurate pointing on the offset, for what fits a narrow body. (..for Tdi Racing.)

I like these wheels on the 996's, for my eyes, they "fits very well" the line of the car.
Well, may be the trick is to use the hollow ones in the front. A lower unsprung mass in the front is may be more important than on the rear !

Patrick
