Question about c4s exhaust and tips
Hi guys, I have some question about my 2003 c4s
My tailpipe bracket is broken, the dealer said it's about 400$ to replace it. So, I'm thinking to buy after market sport exhaust instead,
the one I interested is Fabspeed. But I have read a lot about MKII mod. So, my question are
1) Which one is sound better between Fabspeed and MKII mod, or do you guys have any sport exhaust to recommend?
Personally, I love aggressive and loud but not flat when idle like bypass pipe.
2) If i decide to do PSE mod, can I just weld my broken bracket at muffler shop?
3) For the Fabspeed or another after market exhaust, including bypass pipe, they said that I have to reuse the factory c4s tips.
What's difference between C2/C4 and C4s that make me have to reuse factory tips?
4) I saw one sport exhaust on ebay which is modified OEM mufflers, it's like combination of MKI and MKII.
Have anyone here did it before? If yes, how's its sound like? Do you think how much does it cost for the welding include the pipes?
Thanks

here is a link to a guy selling a used pair of brackets.... $25 - auction, no reserve, I dobt anyone will be fighting for these...
are they what you need?
LINKY
Second, I have the MKII Hack mod. I personally love it, I had by-pass pipes and liked the "full throttle" sound, but hated the drone, low rpm and deafening volume for a DD...
no re-use of tips for by-pass pipes.. they are the tips too...
Here is a new Fabspeed owners thread -
LINKY
He is not super happy with them and might consider selling them....he is in AU
I have not seen that mod before but those cans look like MKI (3.4) cans and I was told they dont souond as good - I found some MKII (3.6) cans for my mod, maybe thats why the person added the second pipe.

Welcome!
No shortage of opinions on mufflers. I am happy with my Fabspeeds, but I also know there are a lot of other views. Mine seemed to have mellowed a huge amount with age. Other than PSE (or the hack) the current favorite seems to be Tubi, but I have never had a chance to hear them.
Regarding the tips--the C4S tips are longer than the stock, so I reused them. I found lots of options for the standard 996 tips, but almost no alternatives on the market for the C4S.

Hi guys! Thank you very much for your help,
I' m new to Porsche, just bought this 2003 c4s a month ago. I'm Asian guy (Thailand) but just move to Boston,MA.
I'l post some pics of my car after I clean it, now it still dirty.
Ed, thank you very much for your link, I think the bracket in ebay is for 3.4 can, so it cannot fit to my 2003 c4s, isn't it?
For the link about Fabspeed sound, it seem like endless dabatable, different person has different ears...
Jon996, thanks a lot for your opinion, and answer about c4s tips. So, it's mean that C4s has longer rear bumper which make me have to reuse OEM tips?
As you are Fabspeed user, have you ever heard MKII sound? Is yes, what do you think?
From many post in Rennlist, I think that Fabspeed sound is louder that MKII, Is that right?
Redridge, all pictures I have now are from the past owner, should I post it?
Moreover, do you guys think I can weld my broken bracket? or buy a new one should be better?
P.S. It would be greatful if anyone here can let me hear your exhaust sound (not stock one) for being an idea, I live in Boston, MA
like I said, different person has different ears.
Thank you very much for the warm welcome!!

Hey, Hardass... er... I mean Hardtail (hee hee)
Welcome to Rennlist and congrats on getting a nice looking 996. At least I THINK it is nice looking, but since you didn't post pics, I can't be sure! Consider this next sentence your "Newbie Initiation."
Come on Newbie, post the !@#$%^&* pics! (The other guys make me do this. It's the only way they will let me stay on Rennlist since I don't have a 996 anymore.)
The modified stock mufflers sound great. They are at least 85% of true PSE. You will not regret modding your stock mufflers. You can have a local muffler shop do the MK II mod for about $200 to $300. Much cheaper than buying aftermarket mufflers. If you do the mod and don't like the sound and then decide to get aftermarket mufflers, you should be able to sell your modded 3.6L mufflers here for about what it cost to mod them.
Again, welcome to the Phunny Pharm!

Here in MN (translates to Middle of Nowhere) I had very little chance to hear any options at all, so I read all the links here and over at 6 speed, and went with Fabspeed. The only annoying noise I get is if lugging in lower 2K rpms, and then I should be shifting anyway. I can imagine it's worse with a tiptronic. Actually, I think the sound is more throttle position driven than RPM driven.
Regarding the tips, the C4S tips have a longer extension on them than stock pipes, so very few companies make alternatives that work. (Let me know if you hear of any!)

Welcome Hardtail, here's a link to mine, a before/after of the MKII mod on a 02 C4S:
Video Link Here
A subtle but noticeable difference, raspier with a deeper and throatier growl. No droning at highspeeds.

Thank you everyone for your links, now the most interesting thing to me is FisterD mod stage II (as he called)
So, anyone have any idea what size of the pipe did he use? is it the same 2.25" as MKII?
