Default Luggage Compartment Latch

Uh oh - I was inquiring with the shop at the local dealer about fixing the luggage compartment latch on my 01 C2 Cab. They asked if I needed a car to drive while it was being repaired and for some reason that alerted my "gouge me" antenna. I've only had the car since last August, so the only time the car has been to a shop was to a dealer to have the key programmed. The shop I am speaking to is the same dealer that did my key - anyone have an idea of what this is going to cost? Is the "loaner" car complimentary (free)? Is it customary for a dealer to provide a complimentary loaner because of the large overheads they charge? Or do they simply expect the run of the mill Porsche owner not to worry about the expense of a loaner car?

I'm in unknown territory here, so any advice is welcome...

Thanks,
Rudy

Loaner car is free of charge (I would assume you're expected to put gas in it though), but they don't always have a loaner available. I got shafted when I had my car in for a coil pack, as they didn't have a loaner and it's Porsche's policy to not cover rental cars. They just had someone drive me back to work and my wife had to be my chauffeur the next day.

Could always just ask.

Every shop--dealer or specialty--should provide a free loaner. What are you supposed to do: impose on spouse, friends or coworkers for a ride every time?

My specialty shop maintains a fleet of ancient Volvos for loaners. One has over 400k on the clock. Costs them very little, and when you get your pcar back, it feels like an F1 car in comparison.

Well I have never had a loaner car that didnt end up costing me - and once it was a huge amount, I was pissed as they never stated there was a charge prior to me just driving it off with basically no paperwork

make it simple ask "what is the charge per day"... then they will reply, its complimentary or a figure....

That's what I was worried about - I'll call tomorrow and check.

Thanks!

Closing the file on this one... Took the car in yesterday... the loaner was gratis as long as I replaced the gas... (it was an actual Hertz counter inside the dealership - so for $10 in gas I got the loaner for two days...) It was the actuator. They had to overnight the part in and installed it this morning... $80 and tax for the part, $195 in labor and $20 in overnight fees - less than $300... not bad from my perspective...

Angie over at Pioneer Porsche was very nice to work with and any concerns over taking my car to this shop (for stuff my indie couldn't do) are settled. All in all a good experience.

Thanks!

My comment to the cashier was "Goody, now I get to use the WHOLE car." The luggage latch problem was one of the first things I posted about when I first got here... 10 months to get it fixed isn't too bad, is it???
