Default Who makes a good, affordable Hi-flow cat X-pipe???

...easy question huh? If my cats are starting to act up maybe a higher flow system for equal cost and installation hassle is the route to go? Fabspeed system is 1500 bucks BTW...

Fabspeed also has the non X-pipe cats. They are a bit cheaper. Curious as to why you would want a X-pipe system. I've heard it losses power it that configuration.

The Federal Clean Air Act requires auto manufacturers to provide additional warranties on emissions equipment that are separate from the warranty against mechanical defects. This is the source of the 8 year/80,000 mile warranty on catalytic converters and other major emissions components for model years 1995 and newer.

Here's a link to an EPA fact sheet that you will find useful. About two-thirds of the way down you'll find a statement that the warranty is in effect whether the car is new or used. Read carefully, and good luck.

I guess my question would be: why do they sell an anti-productive system??? Sound?!?!? Maybe we can find someone that can provide the pros & cons to 'X' cat versus no 'X' cat system on the 3.4L water cooled flat 6. X works real well on V-8 engines due to exhaust pulse mixing between banks that helps coax more efficiency from the exhaust cycle. When I was over on the 993 side it seemed to be a good thing for the 3.6L air cooled guys - wonder why the theory would not apply to water cooled - any power efficiency experts out there on the 996 side

I had the x pipes on my 993 and really liked the sound. I meant have a set made this winter for the 996 but other projects got in the way.

but it looks so cool....
the cats are 200 cells and they are the same as fvd cats (german made).... fabspeed x pipes are very well made. AWE makes them as well but sez it reduces power.

Maybe I'll call Fabspeed and talk to one of their 'engineers' and see what they **say** about a cat-'X' versus regular 200 cell cat individual pipes. Of course the folks to talk to are people that have done it and measured the results on a dyno Maybe the Fabspeed 'X' part does not actually cause the two sides to actually mix - could be a fake weld to make the two pipes "look like" they co-mingle - I don't know...

from the pic... it doesnt look like that the intersection of the "X" area has a substantial hole to actually balance the exhaust banks out... if you look at the "X" section of the original X pipe on the aircooled cars... it is a big intersection.
