At the replacement prices that you guys are talking about, this sounds like it is almost a viable option. 381 hp and no core charge. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSC...Q5fAccessories

This is a 997 S X51 engine. You can buy that engine (a 3.8l X51) for less than they are asking straight from a dealer. I would not consider it a viable of an option for a 996. You still need to build a wiring harness, adapter hoses, etc. and come up with custom ECU programming to run it. If it was for a 997 or 987, it would just be a bolt-ons with a couple of parts and an ECU flash.

The seller (Gembella USA) claims that it is a great upgrade for a 996 and they offer installation. I would be interested to know what the differences are. One of the members here, had a 3.6 X51 engine installed in his non-egas 3.4 996, without any major problems (a relfash of the ecu and a slight wiring modification to accomidate the varioram trigger?). 02 Carrera, are you aware of any other differences between the 996 and 997 engines? Thanks.
That intake manifold sure is sweet looking.

This post probably answered my question...https://rennlist.com/forums/racing-a...es-matter.html
It can be done, but it's a nightmare....the non-egas would undoubtedly add more problems. 02 Carrera, you obviously know what you are talking about, Thanks.
