What's the difference between oil filters 996.107.225.60 and 996.107.225.53?

IDK off the top of my head, but look them up on the Pelican site and see to what vehicles they apply.

I think 996.107.225.60 is for 3.6L and 996.107.225.53 is for 3.4L
However, I think they both fit either models. I'm not sure though.

For my last oil change, I ordered the appropriate filter for my 02 C4S, which is 996.107.225.60
However, Sunset Imports sent me 996.107.225.53. I was a little confused, but looked up previous records of my car with the dealer, and it showed that all the filters they had been using on my car were 996.107.225.53. Same with my indy place.

With that, I went ahead and installed it without bothering to ask for an exchange.

From Loren on Renntech:

996.107.225.52 was replaced by 996.107.225.53 and was replaced by 996.107.225.60.
Any of the three will work fine.

Porsche has spec'd for Boxsters, at least MY '02, cause my local parts counter guy looks up part number of filter based on my car's VIN and this is the filter that comes up.

He says other MYs and other models, some still use the older filter.

I've looked filters over very carefully side by side and in bright light and near as I can tell save for the visible difference in the end rings are identical.

Parts guy tells me same thing but he goes by what the VIN/parts number relationship is when he fills a parts order.

I've used the new filter several times and at least once since have used the old filter and in fact still have an old filter that I will use for next oil/filter service.

Sincerely,

Macster.

That's because the .53 is a classic model and as the 993 guys know classics are better.

I should have known better, right? I'm almost sure I get 7 more HP out of the filter with the sporty black ring though.

Interesting, I got the 53 model from my local stealership in October. I had no idea that there are multiple versions.
