Do I need to change both tires?

If your tire has only a few 32nds of depth gone I would look into dismounting it from the wheel and patch/plugging. If it's a sidewall puncture or if the other tire is over half gone I would replace both of them.

Interestingly, I got a flat tire in Bridgehampton this past weekend. Coincidentally, I had gotten a flat out there last summer also. I'm guessing that with all the construction, there are screws and nails lying all over the place.
Anyway, point is, my right rear tire needed to be replaced. Alas, they didn't have the exact same tires that I'm running all the way around (Bridgestone REO50 and NOT N-rated). Of course, the Porsche dealer out there told me that I really needed to swap out the two rears for an N-rated tire. All they had were Pirellis. It took some might cajoling, but I got him to just exchange one tire. So, I'm driving around with two different tires on my right rear axle. It feels fine. I'm guessing that unless you tracking this car at the limit, I definitely wouldn't get suckered for the replace-two tactic unless your other 'good' tire is getting well-worn. Just insane. But, in fairness, I am anxiously waiting for 10k miles to pass so I can go to the Michelin PS2. I just hear too many good things.
