Default ...and then the wheel fell off

A testament to German engineering. My buddy had an incident last night. Note that the wheel did actually fall off - you can see the sway bar in the pic. I saw the pieces at his house and the control arm is literally broken in half. He walked away and should be ok (fingers crossed).

deployed. Impact on left front fender and continued on down side of car to driver's door skin. Considerable damage to front chassis hardpoints and front suspension/steering. Car totaled. (No settlement yet, damn insurance company can sure drag its feet when money's involved.)

No injuries. First airbag deployment for me and my passenger. Seat belt pretensioners fired too. (Passenger side airbag destroys leather dash.)

Anyhow, these are very good very safe cars. They bend/fold/crush where they have to in order to protect the occupants.

I am looking very much forward to having a new replacement Cayman S in just a few weeks.

Glad your friend walked away with just some minor injuries.

Sincerely,

Macster.

A very serious accident and luckily no casualties. Those 911's sure are sturdy little cars.

Whenever I see a story like this I am always amazed and somewhat awestruck at the quality and engineering of our cars.

The damage is substantial, but not what I would think after reading his description of the incident. Glad he is OK.

These days I wouldn't even buy dog food from the Chinese, much less a car.

Those pics make my stomach turn, but hey he walked away and that's all that matters. Make sure he really gets himself thoroughly checked out, 60 mph crashes always have some impact on muscle and bone even if you don't immediately realize it.
