Default Uneven wear on rear tire normal?

I'm seeing a significant difference in wear pattern on my right rear tire:
* The inside tread is much more worn down than the outside.
* The wear pattern on the other three tires looks much more consistent, including the other rear tire and the right hand front.

I expect to have my rears wearing faster than my fronts, but the uneven tread wear pattern on a specific tire has me worred. Is this normal? Any advice on this? Thanks!

yes it is normal. it has to do with the negative camber in the stock setup.

Thanks for the reply. So, this is only on the RHS? I don't see it on the left rear tire.

If you have uneven wear on one side of a given end then your alignment is suspect. Get it checked.

Is it a C-4? I have the same problem. My right rear needs replacing but the others have a few miles left on them. I don't think it's a camber issue but I'm curious to know if you've got a C-4.

my C4 wears evenly in the back. sounds like a suspension setup problem.

No, it's not a C4.

So... it's normal to expect uneven wear on the rear tires due to negative camber, but both wear patterns should be similar?

yes. the insides of the rear tires will wear more quickly than the outside, but both rear tires should wear evenly.

My 2000 C4 is wearing more on the inside right as well. I had an alignment when the tires were installed. I'm guessing that somehow it got knocked out enough to cause this. I can't imagine it's supposed to wear more in the right due to alignment spec.

My C2 right rear went the same way. I was told that uneven wear was due to acceleration torque, but I have no real idea whether my alignments were done correctly, or stayed true.

In a C2 is the right rear the drive side? That would account for the wear. But in a C4, how is the power distributed in dry conditions?

mine always wear out unevenly but I always figured it was the way I drive the car...
..I slide around and punch it in the curves...and I favor one side much more...
...I swap them over at about 5,000 miles to even it out...

Can you swap the rear tires from side to side? On my other car, which has PS2s, the tread is directional and asymmetric, so I don't think I can swap left and right rears. My 996 has Proxes T1-Rs (unfortunately); not sure about them.

...you take them to the tire-guy...and 20 bucks later all is swapped...
they are quite familiar with these requests...
however, Sumi III's are not directional, so I can 'just do it'...they are just marked 'Outside'...
(albeit, NOT N-Rated though...)
