Default Cheap oil tube removal tool

When I bought my 996 a couple months ago, one of the minor issues the PO left me with was a seeping spark plug oil tube. I searched the archives but couldn't find a suitable alternative to the factory tool (besides trying to pry it out w/ a screwdriver).

A friend w/ a Boxster said he had heard of using an expanding boat plug as a removal tool, so thought it sounded like a better idea than the expensive factory tool. With new tube in hand I went to my local Walmart. Believe it or not, a 1" expanding boat plug fit just fine, and costs all of $2. Even gives you something to lever against to pull the tube out. The old tube came out without a problem.

Hope this idea helps someone maintaining their own car.

My oil filler tube is longer than that. I believe I have to take out the intake plenum to get to mine.

Please excuse me, but what is a spark plug oil tube?
Is that the oil filler tube as in washington dc's post? I'm confuzzled.

I love it when we find or make things that work as well or better than original gadgets!!
Well done!

It's not the oil filler tube. It's the tube that seals in oil around your valve cover. Your spark plug goes into this tube and threads into the head. You have to remove a coil to get this tube out.
