Default 45 k Service - Ballpark Price

I have found a good indy shop (a link to their website is on my local PCA Chapters website).

They quoted me $600 - $700 for inspection and 45k service. How does this sound?

The indy shop owner also wants to do his own PPI as he is not familiar with my car. I feel good that he wants to have a really good understanding of my car.

Thoughts?

There is a thread next to yours with what is done to a 45K service. $600 to $700 seems steep for changing oil and fluids. Did you get a PPI in LA? If so, then I would do your own poking around the engine to start learning about the car. The engine is covered by sheet metal more than other cars because of engine placement and design but it is not more complicated.

I would ask the borad for other Indy recommendations in your area. FYI, my mechanic did my post purchase PPI for free because he knew that he is going to get my business going forward.

If inflation heads up as projected, by the time my car hits 45K miles, I figure the service will run me around $9,000.

I called all three of my local dealers and a couple of Indy shops to get quotes... Lowest was the dealer @ $485. Highest was Indy @ $750. The dealer gave me a loaner and accepted my EasyCare warranty - so it was am easy decision.

Good luck. Def call around - it really is a glorified oil change.

Not counting oil and filter, 45k cost me a grand total of $2.50 to rent a lift bay for an hour on my 04 986S. It's a virtually identical checklist for your 996. There really is nothing to it, it's all visual inspections. Save the cash; do it yourself Might as well just do the oil yourself, too, while it's up on the lift!

...of course, replacing the cracked body panels I couldn't see until I got it up on the lift cost $150, though, grrrr....

I am on the fence about doing this service myself. I know that I am capable of doing the work but just want to start a relationship with a local indy shop.

The PPI was completed prior to purchase. I did notice this AM that the oil was a little low by about 1 quart. I topped it off with Mobil 1 0w-40. I not really sure if this represents the level of thoroughness on the rest of the PPI. With that being said, I am thinking about starting a relationship with the local indy shop and have them inspect the car and take care of the 45k service.

I paid $650 for the 60K service at a local indy. That's far too much for a 45k service.

The way I see it, the significant part of the 60K is the plug change. Otherwise, it's just an oil change and inspection. I think $350 is a fair price for the 45K plus brake flush. The guy I found here is definitely competent and extremely reasonable but he's about an hour away so I only go there when I can't do something fairly easily myself. The brake flush is really easy and so is the oil change. I do understand wanting to establish a relationship with an indy though. Maybe you should ask around on here and with the local PCA a bit more to find someone who isn't charging stealership prices.
BTW, when I did the 60K I also had a M030 ROW suspension installed with alignment. The total bill was $1300. That's my definition of a reasonable indy.
Good luck finding yours!
