I'm hopefully picking up a C4s next week assuming my PPI goes well. I will need TWO new keys.. current one has been glued together and remote functions don't work.. Is there any option outside of taking it to the dealer to get this done? I could ask local independent, but thought i'd get opinions here first.

Very old thread. If you want two working remote keys you will have to go to the nearest Porsche dealer. There you can order new keys which will come with key tags that will have to be programmed into the car. Dealer is the only route on this one. And hold onto your wallet...it is very expensive, but the only way. You can transfer the metal blade (laser cut key) to a new remote.

If it's the only way, it's the only way... Sounds like you're suggesting I can at least save some $ by utilizing the existing metal blade for one of the new remotes?

I would recommend taking a look at the key innards before going to the expense of all new keys. The keys for my 2002 were horrid but it was just the rubber bits -- the button covers, and the buttons below them in particular. That stuff is available, although you will need to be handy with a soldering iron. I have two perfectly functioning keys now.

Here is the source for the buttons. https://batee.com/products/986-996-b...ter-repair-kit

Key cases can be found on eBay I think, or maybe I got them from one of the online Porsche stores? Can't remember. You just swap all the innards over, presto, Bob's yer uncle.

I'm not a soldering expert, but maybe someone around in my local PCA is... not a bad idea, thank you!

Old indeed... And funny to read someone complained about the price of a new key in 2009. IIRC my second key cost over 500.00. bought the brass and fob from sunset, 30 to get the brass cut, and another 100 at my Indy for him to work his magic with pwiws and info from the dealer retrieved from my vin. But the new key is awesome.

I just got a '03 C4S. Neither of the remotes worked. I changed the batteries in both and both light up bright, and tried EVERYTHING to re-sync them!
I got one working by turning the ignition on then off, then holding the remote button for 20 sec.
The other one lights up, but won't unlock/lock the car.
I even tried the "hold the button, lock and unlock procedure:
https://jmgporsche.co.uk/itemlist/tag/key

Nope still doesn't work.
