Default Ever Heard Of A 1999 Launch Edition ?

I'm shopping 996s right now and ran across this car:

http://www.carconnectionsusa.com/cgi...5841&d_id=1177

I've never seen any other mention of a 996 launch edition. Is this on the level? Click on the "Description" tab for a...description...

Thanks!

I dont think it's the same context as the "launch" you are thinking (aka take off from a dead stop) I think it means the begining to a new series being introduced (we launched (introduced) our new car to the US market)

just my opinion though.. others agree

Yep, I meant it in the context of launching the new 996 line. I've just never seen any special edition mentioned in connection with this - I only knew about the Millennium and the 40 year edition. Again, I'm wondering - is this car really a special edition, or is the seller yanking our chain?

Now THAT's a special edition that's been discussed a time or two

Now there is something that is rare, this one is the launch edition were "launch" can be interchabged with "chain jerking"

OK...let me try this one more time.

This car:

..is being marketed as a "special edition." Is it really?

Otherwise,

Yeah, I think that's reasonable to call that a "launch edition" because it is an early '99 with the amber turn signals.

Later '99s like mine had clear lenses.

That looks just like Cam's car. Is Cam's car still for sale? I can't remember his ID name. Anyone know it?

There is a sweet looking '99 in Glacier White with an Aero kit with 49K miles on it listed in the Classified section. However, you may not be able to access the link below because only paying members can access the Member-to-Member classifieds. The car is in Martinsburg, WV.

I think what they mean is that this was one of the first 996's to hit the dealers and they came pre-optioned from the factory a certain way. I remember when the 997S first came out, the early cars were all similarly optioned. ie loaded... Therefore, it's not really a special edition it's just one of the first 996's. IMO.

Correct! If it was a launch car, Every Porsche dealer received the exact same car. It could also of been one of the cars Porsche did their training with. Be carefull with those cars as I have been to this training, and we did not go easy on the cars. They are abused for at least the first 1k miles.

P.S. I just ran the VIN through PCNA. I did not see any launch codes..
